Though not a done deal, let's assume for the sake of argument that Drake and Bradley finish 1-2 in whatever order. The main remaining goal for SIU would be finishing top-four/getting a Thursday bye, but I'm starting to think a key secondary goal would be to nail down the 3 seed.
Finish fourth or fifth, and you probably have a quite scary 4-5 quarterfinal with Belmont or Indiana State, both of which can score in bunches and are playing pretty well. If you get the 3 seed, you likely would play one of Missouri State, UNI, Murray. Obviously any of those teams could beat SIU on the wrong day, but I would say there's a dropoff from Belmont/Indiana State, especially with UNI and Murray really scuffling lately. And then on top of that, SIU could probably bring a few more fans to a 3-6 night quarterfinal than if they are in the day session Friday in St. Louis.
@siudawgs The trouble for SIU is to do that they would need to close out strong. All the other contenders are playing at a high level and peaking at the right time while we are trending hard in the opposite direction.
I do hope we can lock down at least a 3 seed though as I'm sure once we're at the Arch our guys will be locked in and refocused. To give us our best shot from that point, we need to avoid Drake, Bradley, Belmont and Indiana State for as long as possible.

While Belmont is pretty young, they have Sheppard and Friberg as key seniors, and their reliance on 3-point shooting could be a blessing or a curse - catch them on a hot day, and big trouble. Southern relies on 3-point shooting a lot, too, without the same results.
