Illinois State might be better than expected.  Antonio Reeves has been impressive so far.  Redbirds are up 12 at halftime against a bad Eastern Michigan team, Reeves has 15 at the half.

The Fighting EMUs were picked 11th in the MAC. Only NIU was picked worse.

Unfortunately they're ranked higher than Little Rock in KenPom 😞

AJ Green's defense wasn't great before and seems to have taken a noticeable hit so far this year.  I don't see how he's going to be able to guard some of the better guards in the league.  I was surprised people picked him over Prim in the preseason polls.

I've always felt Greene was overrated. Bowen Born is out I believe - excellent guard. They'll be a better team with him.

Illinois State had a 12 point lead at halftime but ends up falling 103-98 in double OT.  Sy Chatman had 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Redbirds, no idea where that came from.

Indiana State predictably getting blown out at Purdue

Missouri Valley Conference Games for Saturday, November 13th:

#262 UIC @ #246 Valparaiso 12:00 PM ESPN3 (Valpo favored by 3)

Valpo looks to rebound from their loss to Toledo and get a Luke Yaklich-led UIC team that lost to a good Dayton team by 10 in their opener.

#207 Florida Gulf Coast @ #30 Loyola Chicago 1:00 PM ESPN3 (Loyola Chicago favored by 18.5)

The Ramblers get a Florida Gulf Coast team that's struggled in recent seasons at home.  Ramblers should roll here against FGCU, who were picked 6th of 12 in the Atlantic Sun.

#271 Howard @ #183 Bradley 2:00 PM ESPN+ (Bradley favored by 8.5)

Bradley looks to rebound from their loss at South Dakota State against a Howard team that beat 2 non D1 schools to start their season.  Howard was picked 5th in the MEAC.

#179 Evansville @ #82 Belmont 4:00 PM ESPN+ (Belmont favored by 13.5)

Future Missouri Valley conference game alert!  Evansville visits Nashville to face a Belmont team that lost at Ohio in their opener.  Belmont was picked 1st in the Ohio Valley Conference and features Grayson Murphy.

#341 Alabama State @ #77 Missouri State 7:00 PM ESPN3 (Missouri State favored by 21.5)

Should be a get-right game for Missouri State after their opener loss to SEMO on Tuesday.  Alabama State is coached by former NBA player Mo Williams and was picked 8th of 12 in the SWAC.

Valley just plain sucks early in the season. Bradley losing to a very bad Howard team late in the 1st half. Valpo loses to UIC at home and Loyola had an 18 point lead at the half, only to let Florida Gulf Coast cut the lead to 4 late in the game. Now looks like Loyola will hold on.

Loyola 89, Fla-Gulf Coast 77

The bottom of the MVC is really bad this year. Illinois State, Bradley and Valpo may as well make their reservations for Thursday night in St Louis! I think Evansville is a little better than folks are expecting. They may compete for 6th with Indiana State. Indiana State had a chance to sneak into the top 5 before Key got hurt, but that will be a tough task for them now. The difference between the top 5 and bottom 3 in the valley this year will probably be as big as ever!

Still think it’s premature to count Valpo out without King and Krikke, who will be back pretty soon. They’ve lost close games without them.

Both ISUs will play Thursday and Bradley will too, it appears. Valpo and Evansville likely will battle it out for 6th, IMO. Sure hope Southern isn’t in that picture but it’s early yet …
