Awful injury luck for Drake continues
That is horrible news for Penn and Drake; I'm guessing he's done for the year if it's a fracture.

Small fracture would probably be approximately 6-8 weeks. Mid January to early February at the latest.
Northern Iowa moves to 2-5 with a loss to Richmond. Valpo beats Western Michigan. Drake only up 5 against St. Thomas in the 2nd half.

They've played a tough schedule first off, although that doesn't excuse the loss at Bradley. But mainly, they've been a very poor defensive team.
Way too much red on the defensive side. Kind of weird they're one of the worst offensive rebounding teams in the country but the best defensive rebounding team.

Biggest surprise is Indiana State coming in 5th so far. SIU almost dead even with their KenPom number. UNI the biggest disappointment. And Drake definitely has some work to do. They need to pick up wins, and win by 30+. 5 teams are in the 200+ group. This absolutely sucks for the conference, especially considering the expectations coming in.
Also, Belmont coming in at 43 and Murray State at 64.

Pretty grim. Loyola and maybe Indiana State (without Key) are the only two teams that probably have slightly exceeded expectations, and there are several teams that have been busts so far relative to preseason hype, most notably UNI and Missouri State (and Drake to a lesser extent).
SIU is probably about where most would have expected. Dropping the Creighton game hurt but they also pulled a few out that could have gone the other way and been bad losses.
Added Belmont (43) and Murray State (64) who would slot in #2 and #3. Hopefully Murray is added soon, things wouldn't be looking good right now if Belmont wasn't waiting in the wings.
stop assuming murray college is an automatic add. they are not. valley football does not want them at all. murray won't abandon football. it's an impass. who can blame them. mvc presidents are split on mvc membership too.

I have heard similar information. There are rumors everywhere, but I think it is safe to say that the Valley has consistently pursued much larger markets than Murray in recent history. They have added Chicago and Nashville most recently, and had discussions with Denver and other big markets in the past few years. History is a very good indicator if you ignore the rumors. The more potential TV viewers, the bigger the TV contracts become. The Murray TV market is essentially the same as the SIU market and thus does not help at all. That doesn't mean it won't ever happen, but that is the reality.

SIU's market seems to be ESPN3...how much are we getting paid for TV?

They also have deals with the Bally Sports local stations (formerly Fox Sports) and NBC Sports Network in Chicago. They also have the ESPN and CBS national deals which they're more likely to keep going if they're in bigger markets.
We are a basketball conference! If we don't add Murray, that's just dumb!
I get that Murray doesn't want to be wo a football conference. I don't think they're any worse than WIU or Indiana State. Joining the MVFC would give them a boost too. They finished 6 - 5 and their freshman QB was OVC Freshman of the Year. Beat SEMO and EIU twice!
