I think Sturtz was the most important player on Drake this season. Not only are the stats there but he does the little things so well that win games.
Bart Torvik's website argues he could have been an All-MVC 1st teamer based on his PORPAGATU stat:
https://barttorvik.com/playerstat.php?link=y&cvalue=MVC&year=2022&start=20211101&end=20220501
the bobber ain't putting down sturtz. but you aren't going to convince me he is one of the top 10 players in the league. 2nd team? reink mast outscored him, and led the league in rebounds by a wide margin. and he ain't on no second team.
besides, who cares what the bobber thinks.

I don't get Mast getting 3rd team, thought he could have been a 1st teamer really. That and Lance Jones not getting on any of the teams were the two biggest surprises to me. There was no reason for Roman Penn to get on 3rd team over Jones.
Please refresh my memory. Has Jones ever made any of the All-Conference teams other than the defensive one? Seems like he has, but then I think the 1980s were just a few years ago until I do the math.

He was Third team All-MVC last year and was preseason All-MVC third team this year

I believe this is the first time you have ever been wrong. 🙂
Mast should have been 2nd team IMO, but without Sturtz, Drake is Indiana State. Not flashy like Roberts but there isn't another player in the MVC more valuable to his team.

I actually agree with this - he was the most valuable guard to his team I think. Not at all flashy but just so many little things to help the team.
No Salukis on the MVC Most Improved team or Bench teams. So just Domask as a 2nd teamer and Jones on all-defensive team. Kind of further pushes the point that a lot of work needs to be done all around to compete next year.
I really think SIU is gonna come in picked no higher than 4th in the preseason no matter what they do in the offseason.

If SIU lands the top JUCO PG, they'll not only be picked to finish higher than 4th, but they WILL.

Not sure about that. I mean to be fair, preseason rankings mean nothing to begin with. SIU can be picked anywhere and win the Valley. Preseason polls are somewhat a product of how teams finished the previous season.
I just fully expect Murray State, Drake, Bradley to be picked ahead of SIU for sure. And then it's likely Belmont and maybe Northern Iowa and Missouri State ahead of them too. There's a non-zero chance that SIU is getting picked 7th of 12 in the preseason next year. Obviously depends on who is coming back across the board but even if teams lose guys, it's not too hard to reload in the transfer portal and be right back on the top of the Valley.
Just looking at the all conference teams and who could be back next year:
Green=Likely Back
Purple=Iffy
Red=Surely gone
1st team:
AJ Green-In his 4th year but has Junior eligibility with COVID, but tested the NBA waters last year. Don't see him anywhere near getting drafted so it's a possibility he comes back or transfers to a high-major (father is at Iowa State) or possibly goes pro overseas. I think Northern Iowa included him in Senior Night so that might be a hint here that this is him leaving.
Isiaih Mosley-A true Junior, could easily go pro after this year whether it's the NBA, G League, or international but a shot you see him back next year.
Gaige Prim-5th year Senior, he's gone after this year
Terry Roberts-Just a Junior this year and very likely back at Bradley barring a transfer to high-major
Lucas Williamson-Out of the Valley either way
2nd team:
Noah Carter-Listed as a Sophomore but this was his Junior year, very likely to be back another year
Tucker DeVries-Very likely back unless his dad gets a job elsewhere
Marcus Domask-Likely back
Antonio Reeves-Tested the NBA waters last year and improved this year. Coach got fired so I'd say he's likely not back
Garrett Sturtz-Already announced he'll be back for a 5th year
3rd team:
Ben Krikke-There's always turnover at Valpo but barring his coach getting fired, I'd guess he's back
Rienk Mast-Very likely to return to Bradley
Cooper Neese-Stayed through a coaching change and already announced he'll be back
Braden Norris-Out of the Valley
Roman Penn-Very likely to return for his 5th year
All together, this is how many awards each team got so far, guessing Jacobson wins COY:
Drake: 7 (DeVries 2nd team, Sturtz 3rd team, Penn 3rd team, DeVries newcomer team, DeVries Freshman team, Wilkins defensive team, Sturtz improved team)
Loyola Chicago: 6 (Lucas Williamson 1st team, Braden Norris 3rd team, Knight newcomer team, Uguak defensive team, Williamson defensive team, Schwieger bench team)
Missouri State: 5 (Isiaih Mosley 1st team, Gaige Prim 1st team, Haney Freshman team, Clay defensive team, Minnett bench team)
Bradley: 5 (Terry Roberts 1st team, Rienk Mast 3rd team, Terry Roberts newcomer team, Hickman Freshman team, Mast improved team)
Valpo: 5 (Krikke 3rd team, King newcomer team, Ruedinger Freshman team, Edwards bench team, Edwards improved team)
Indiana State: 4 (Cooper Neese 3rd team, Cam Henry newcomer team, Xavier Bledson bench team, Neese improved team)
Northern Iowa: 3 (AJ Green 1st team, Noah Carter 2nd team, Bowen Born all-bench)
Southern Illinois: 2 (Domask 2nd team, Jones defensive team)
Illinois State: 2 (Reeves 2nd team, Reeves improved team)
Evansville: 1 (Sisley Freshman team)
Tulsa and Wichita are battling it out for last place in the Valley tonight. Oh wait...wrong league. I guess things aren't working out.
Why would Missouri State leave for the Sun Belt though?
these are the same people that gave us the midget though. this would be one of the dumbest moves I've ever seen. flush a decent basketball program. move a terrible fb program to fbs. theyve done nearly nothing in college football ever. you likely lose Ford and half your basketball roster and for what? a CHANCE to lose even more money at the Kohler Toilet Bowl in Saskatchewan in december? are they THAT stupid? it's one thing to leave for big east. it's beyond moronic to leave for the sun belt or the a-17. it hasn't worked at all for tulsa. it's starting to fall apart in shocker town. but there's the door!
Craving a McBride Special!
Here’s my Arch Madness picks:
