Drake looks to be heavy frontrunners for the MVC this year

He cancelled a visit to SIU and BYU.

If thats the best candidate they can find, they should have just kept what they had.

There were earlier rumors they were going to get the NW Missouri powerhouse D-II coach but instead end up with Ragland.

Probably about as good as they could do if they didn’t get the D2 coach. Apparently Kim Anderson coached there too and it took Mizzou to finally pry him (and that went poorly)
Here's a way too early MVC Preview for 2022-23:
Can't say I agree much with some of this but always fun to look ahead to basketball season. The MVC is going to be tough to predict this year given the amount of turnover and adding 3 new schools.
Probably as good as anyone else’s shot-in-the-dark stab at it. I wonder aloud if Clarence Rupert had moved when this was written? He is going to have a significant impact.

In regards to Rupert, I'm going to guess it does not. It doesn't look like it was recently written in general. I've noticed its missing quite a few key additions for several teams as well as omitting the return of UIC's best player.
As things stand right now, I think Drake is the favorite followed by SIU at #2.

Couldn't agree more.
I don't envy the people that have to do MVC Preseason predictions with the amount of turnover there's been the past few months. I'm waiting until October for a full preseason prediction when we get preseason numbers out there and training camp underway but right now I have it grouped like this:
Tier 1---Contenders
1. Drake
2. Missouri State
3. Murray State
4. Southern Illinois
5. Bradley
Tier 2---Could contend but likely middle of the pack
6. Belmont
7. Northern Iowa
Tier 3---Stuck in the middle with no direction and high school facilities
8. Valpo
Tier 4---Rebuilding teams with a bright future that can make some noise
9. Indiana State
10. Illinois State
11. UIC
Tier 5---Hired a coach literally a week ago but better off than they were at the end of the season
12. Evansville
I don't think the Valley is top-heavy at all and certainly a one bid league barring something crazy but I think it's going to be deep 1-11 with Evansville struggling a bunch. I think UIC is even going to cause a bid of havoc.

I see potential for both ISUs to be surprise teams with some sneaky-good transfer additions. I could see Belmont really struggling and sinking toward the bottom of the league ... they lost a bunch and will be very reliant on young guys. Northern Iowa seems to be struggling with this transfer-crazy era (probably because Jacobson is too classy for his own good) ... they probably only needed 1-2 decent adds to contend in what looks like a pretty soft year around the league, but they've been portal-allergic.
Agree that this is about as tough a year to prognosticate as I can recall, beyond Drake being a pretty clear favorite.

My personal guess is that he had UNI and Bradley way too high. And Illinois State way too low. Aside from that, I could buy most of it.

Think he's way too low on Missouri State too. Way too much talent there. If they finish in 6th, Ford might be on the hot seat.
