Any word on an assistant hire?  Feel like this one shouldn’t drag on too much longer considering they at least knew last Monday
Any word on an assistant hire?  Feel like this one shouldn’t drag on too much longer considering they at least knew last Monday
I recall some searches that take several weeks, and this is a very important hire, so I'm sure Bryan wants to get it right. That said, it's a key recruiting period, so they have to balance all that. There could also be a lag from when they have their guy to when they make it public ...

I'm just speculating here but if you are in the coaching business you probably have a list of coaching candidates you already have in your head that you would like on your coaching staff if the opportunity presented itself. Like you said 'it's a key recruiting period". The clock's ticking.

I'd imagine his lack of a contract extension might make it more difficult to get the coach he wants. What assistant wants to quit a job to take another where the whole staff might get fired in a year?Any word on an assistant hire?  Feel like this one shouldn’t drag on too much longer considering they at least knew last Monday

Has there been any talk of bringing in Tyler Smithpeters as an assistant? Just asking.Â
I agree Bryan should get a couple more years. Our current situation should not be a surprise to anyone. You bring in such a young man and it's his first head coaching job. Failures should be expected. And Bryan does have a lot of positives. The players he brings in do represent the university well. But maybe Bryan could put a little bail money in his budget. Would it kill him to bring in one or two good players with questionable character flaws. Didn't Kyle Smithpeters have a bit of a dust up with a coed and he came out the other side. Just asking.Â
Presently, Bryan does have a huge 'BUST' sign hanging over him.
Tyler Smithpeters won a JUCO title with his brother's recruits in his first year as a head coach...pretty cool feat, especially given his brother wasn't able to win a game in Hutch, but let's pump the brakes a bit. He's not shown any history in terms of maintaining top level recruiting and winning as a head coach. If he's able to sustain the winning culture for another 2-3 years, maybe he gets an assistant job somewhere, but no way do I see BM hiring him now. Remember how long it took his brother to get a job at the next level as an assistant?

Kyle wants to be in Southern IL. Just because he just now left for a big time assistant job, doesn’t mean this is the first time he was offered. And keep in mind he almost got Bryan’s job so he could’ve been turning down offers waiting on that to open.Â

Regarding Asst. Coach, Does B. Mullins have another brother?
Â
actually yes they do, haha! Don’t think he coaches though.Â
