Agree that it would probably serve both Scotty and Foster to redshirt but its dangerous these days. They can transfer and not sit out. If they get unhappy during the season as they are busting their ass at practice but sitting the entire season the grass can look greener on the other side of the hill. Plus, Wonders has the best shot on the team. If coach is absolutely confident that they will stay, then rs can be a very good thing, but its risky.
I'm not sure that it is fair to say a guy has the best shot on the team when he hasn't hit a single shot in an NCAA game. That may be a bit premature. We still do have the 3 point percentage leader from last year's MVC in Lance Jones, as well as other really good shooters in Marcus Domask and Trent Brown as well as others. Let Wonders prove that statement before just saying it.
I am sure if anyone is going to redshirt there will be plenty of discussion between all parties involved if those discussions haven't taken place already so there will be no surprises to any and all involved so speculation on our part is only that thanks for reading
@dogdays It appears Wonders may be redshirted. He would seem to be well down on the depth chart. Based on what you have seen in practice, how is his defense? Can he score vs defense? Does he hustle? How does he perform in 5 on 5 situations? Also, how do you evaluate Ebube? Thank you.

I remember when Mullins himself was lauding Harvey's ridiculous scoring and shot making during practices the year he had to sit out and he barely sees the floor now due to his defensive struggles. Wonders may turn out to be a decent player in the MVC, or he may have to transfer to play at a lower level, we don't know yet. The only known is that he hasn't played yet this season in a regular season game.
It's weird that in football, you can play a player multiple games to see how he does in actual competition before choosing to redshirt them but in basketball, you play 1 minute and you can't redshirt your players. SIU has 2 games against non-D1 teams in the middle of non-conference play and they'll be unable to play Wonders and Ebube to see what they can do in game action.
Comparing Wonders and Harvey is apples and oranges. I probably shouldn't have commented on his shooting skill as I don't feel comfortable giving an overall evaluation because they were kind enough to allow me to see practice and I doubt they'd want me critiquing any one player. Suffice to say he has the body of a D1 guy and a nice pure stroke. No more from me...I am going to delete the above posts for that reason...
I support SIU, Texas Tech (where my kids go to school), and ANYONE THAT PLAYS THE Whining Illini.
Darren Brooks redshirting turned well for all involved. He wound up as MVC Player of the Year as I recall.

Two time MVC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Still do not understand why he (and Tatum) didn't have an NBA career. NBA is stupid sometimes.

I wonder if the G League was around then like it is now if they'd get more of a look. We've had Anthony Beane and Kavion Pippen the last decade get some run in the G League. There's so many more opportunties.
