Watson asking where the f is Scottie?
Mullins answering yeh there might have been a minute or two we could have put him in.

Ya think?? Of course we could have used Ebube. Rupert and D'Amico were getting their asses handed to them inside. There has to be more to it than that.
Yeh he won't develop sitting on the bench. He's slow though.

That was his lame excuse? Holy shit.

Here's a novel thought...
Play Scottie some in the first 10 minutes of the game, if he's not effective - THEN DONT PLAY HIM ANYMORE! At least if he has too many blunders you've still got 30 minutes to cover any bad play!

Rebounding.
I'll say it right now, if Davis continues to shoot like this, this team's ceiling is much higher than originally thought. And while I hate to see any "scrums", I love the toughness by Davis. Also, LOVE the no call by the refs !!
This didn't age well.
Davis will someday be all-conference MVC! He's tough and has talent.
That's not the part that didn't age well....this is.
In many ways this was far worse than the blow out at Indiana State. Just don't understand not giving more minutes to the bench, especially Scottie. Any idea when Ferguson will be able to play?
The team will go as far as Xavier takes them just like the last 4 years went as far as Domask and Jones would take them. The good teams in the Valley like Bradley and Drake have 4 or 5 guys every night that can be the best player on the floor. That's just not been SIU, too many misses in the portal.
And if X isn't going to sit against Austin Peay, he's probably not gonna take them very far.
When you sputter down the stretch like Southern did, and you only play seven guys, including two guys all 40 minutes, it’s natural to wonder if fatigue factored in. The offense was pretty stagnant for much of the second half, not how the team has looked most of the season.
Brown might have been due a clunker and it came tonight. He’s playing too many minutes. Great first half for Davis, but a bad second half. Rupert was flat-footed a few too many times. Not much from Stulic off the bench. The DNP from Ebube is bothersome and continues to feed the notion that this staff struggles trusting and developing bigs.
As a previous poster noted, it really sucks to cough up the momentum from beating Oklahoma St. with a horrible loss the next time out two years in a row. And it’s going to be a brutal loss for the ole metrics.

Modern offsense and modern college basketball is built around bigs that can shoot consistently.
Does this describe SIU in any possible way?
Why is RJ McGee on this team if he can’t sniff the floor in a game like this when AJ is out and our staff thinks going with wings and guards over bigs is the proper game plan? Should’ve given that scholly to a freshman who could redshirt and develop. Wasted taking him for a year to just sit in a jersey taking up space on the bench

Said it earlier but no idea how he ended up at SIU from Tulane for his last year of eligibility to sit on the bench. Wasn’t like he was terrible too, he at least carved out a bench role in a better league.
Suffice it to say I am disappointed! They wanted it more than we did, now let’s go to Wichita and win. Go Dawgs! If we don’t beat them by at least 20 I will be disappointed. Watched them play The Racer Scum last night, they were awful, Murray was more awful though.

Bucky Dent, who remarkably is still covering the team (for free??) on Facebook, since new Southern Illinoisan ownership even more remarkably is not covering SIU (???!!!) or much of anything else, reports that Ferguson has a stress fracture and likely will be out at least until after Christmas.
Not great news there, as he is missed in this ultra thin rotation. Seems like him trying to play in Cancun might not have been a good maneuver.
