Some interesting stuff here, especially about 10 minutes in when SIU gets mentioned. Seems like Armon Fletcher’s suspension had a big impact on his last season.
Nice interview. Those comments about NIL are disturbing but probably true.
When BH is not self-promoting, he's a nice guy. When he IS self-promoting or BSing, I want to strangle him.

He’s likely correct about high school recruiting from a mid-major perspective. In the case of SIU, think you’re going to see a bunch of 1 or 2 player HS classes going forward, they seem to be headed that way already. The great thing about Mullins so far though compared with a lot of mid-majors is retention hasn’t been much of an issue at all. It was an issue for Barry even before NIL and the portal madness getting worse.
I actually liked the interview as well. The part he said about not recruiting high schoolers made me cringe, because he already got a lot of JUCO players anyway, and couldn’t hold on to anyone. Makes me even more thankful that we have Bryan here now. So far, he has done an incredible job with player retention. Hope that continues. That is where the better “culture” comes in.

Barry's comments are spot on when he talks about recruiting high school kids. For the most part, high school kids need a couple of years to get to a point where they can contribute on the Division I level. The only kids that high-majors will recruit will be the 4 and 5-star players. Ones that can contribute right away. The other kids will be recruited by mid-majors, low-majors and Division II schools. Then, after a couple of years of making a name for themselves, they go into the transfer portal and they'll hope they get picked up by a high-major school. For mid-majors, they need to go to the portal to find kids that can help right away. And that's why Bryan is taking a big gamble if he, indeed, ends up redshirting Cade Hornecker. I will be shocked if he spends 4-5 years in Carbondale.
Gotta say though, some things never change with Barry. Like he said at the end of the interview, "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story..."
