Same here. Didn't we go through this with Lowery for like 3-4 years? Until he finally finished 8-22 and made it obvious to everyone? I'm afraid mediocrity has become the norm here at SIU.
The primary reason it took so long to fire the meatball was due to that fat long term contract we were stuck with.
Craving a McBride Special!
The other thing to keep in mind with Kill is that helped save PT. He and Carlo sawed the limb off behind Bell. If we continue to muddle around at .500 it's going make Kill look bad. Kill hates to look bad and he stuck his neck way out there for this clown. PT has failed to produce, Kill has egg on his face at this point, game over with no NIT. Dunn won't block a Kill recommendation.
That's scary that if Hinson makes the NIT this year, his only postseason berth in 7 years, that he continues to be SIU's coach into the future.
He should be fired if he doesn't make the NCAA, which he won't.
Only way we get an NIT bid is win the regular season title.

He shouldn't maintain his job regardless of what happens the rest of the way. This is bad for SIU, bad for SIU's men's basketball program, bad for a dwindling, disinterested fan base, and a poor message SIU's administration is sending if this continues.
That being said, I think the little huckster has a career in broadcasting if he so chooses.

For me a NIT bid isn't what I expect from SIU basketball. especially from a coach that has had 7 years to build up this program. Next years team will be brutal. I know people are getting tired of the Hinson bashing so I am going to leave that out of the equation. What I expect from SIU basketball is to compete for an MVC title EVERY year and with that an NCAA tournament appearance. The Valley is ripe for someone to take over and dominate it. We still have one of the biggest fan bases in the Valley and the opportunity of doing this is fading with every year. IF the AD doesn't expect us to be at the top of a watered down Valley then he needs to go. I am willing to give Kill the benefit of doubt, I know what happened last spring, and believe that he didn't fully understand the situation with the mens basketball program. I have talked with Kill about the program and the direction it is heading. I now believe that Kill is well aware of where the program currently is and where it needs to go. I just don't think that he had the proper information last spring. I do believe that he will make the necessary changes when the time comes. We as a fan base must remember Kill is our only hope at this time , he is the acting AD. That's why I encourage everyone to voice your opinion and let him know how you feel about SIU BASKETBALL. Hopefully, we win the Valley tournament in March and reach the NCAA tournament but IF we don't a change will be needed.
Barry Hinson will be at SIU as long as he wants to be. If Greg Cook says jump, SIU replies how high. Cook and Hinson are tight as can be. Portable storage money talks. Shut out the lights. Time to tune out.

While I don’t doubt that Cook will have a say about Hinson’s fate, remember that Kill is also close to Cook and Kill has told the boosters that want Hinson out that Hinson must make a postseason tournament or he is out . After a bad non- conference season Hinson’s only route to either the NIT or NCAA tournament is either a regular season or a Valley tournament championship. The weakness of the valley this year makes this very attainable even for Hinson in his 15th year in the valley with NO previous championships. Before anyone reminds I know Kill had a hand in Hinson being retained this spring . But I do know that Kill is more informed about Hinson’s smoke and Mirrors act. Hopefully Kill follows through with his commitment to turn the athletic department around and with that a new Basketball Coach is needed . Of course if Hinson’s does something he has never done before all bets are off.

yawn
Sorry I bored you I just want Hinson gone . Trying to rationalize why he is still here . 🤐

I don't think Kill is so stupid he didn't understand how incompetent the coach is. I think he saw an opportunity to become ad and took it.

I agree he shouldn't be here even if SIU wins the MVC Tournament. But you know Kill won't fire him if he lucks into that.
He would be a great color commentary guy in broadcasting, especially for blowout games when announcers have to go to their C and D material. This guy is so full of sh!t that he could go on for hours and be entertaining to some.
Did Hef really say it may be time to reboot if Hucky doesn't make post season?

Yes, he did.
"Three of the top-six blowouts in the program's history are under Hinson's watch. Only one player during his tenure has been named first team all-conference in the Valley, Anthony Beane Jr. in 2016, and he finished as the program's third-leading scorer. Hinson deserves credit for resurrecting SIU's Academic Progress Report (APR) when he arrived and winning 20 games two out of the last three seasons, but if the Salukis don't break through this year, they will be in need of a re-boot."
They only had 19 wins last year when the non-D1 game is accounted for and their best OOC win was against #173 Winthrop.
They won 22 games in 2015-16 but the best team they played in OOC was #117 Oakland. It was literally one of the worst non conference schedules in the country. It also featured a home loss to SIUe
