Barkeep 1967 do tell 🤔
Pretty sure that's assuming a loss Wednesday and I don't think we will be that lucky. It would be like Hinson to win Wednesday and keep everyone hanging on just a little longer
What the hell are they waiting for ? I never seen more in emptiness in my life . What could Hinson have on these guys?
We've been saying this for 2 years (or longer):
"This breaks my heart ot say this, but we're a one-bid league," Hinson said. "So it doesn't matter what happens in the regular season, you have to find yourself playing great in February and win three games in a row (at Arch Madness)." https://siusalukis.com/news/2019/1/27/mens-basketball-loyola-surges-past-siu-75-50.aspx
This has DEFINITELY been true since Creighton and the Wheatshockers left the conference.

Disgusting. It DOES matter that you are getting blown out January. It DOES matter that you have lost seven of nine. It DOES matter that you are below .500 with a senior-led team. If you have lost you team in January then they aren't coming back to play for you in March. Incompetent.
Wins matter no matter if you are a one-bid league or an eight-bid league. This has got to end.
On top of that, the comment reflects how far Hinson has tanked the culture of the program. It's not even on his radar that if SIU was to get in the NCAAs, you have a much, much better chance of advancing in the tournament as a 10, 11 or 12 seed than as a 14 or 15 seed, which is what Southern would get (and deserve) if they have a magical weekend in St. Louis.
Furthermore, winning the MVC regular season is still an accomplishment (and would have been the first real accomplishment of Hinson's tenure), and guarantees at least an NIT bid.
I understand Hinson has to say something, but in my book, that line of commentary only accentuates what a mess the program has become.

I agree IF Kill and Co. are open to a mid-season change, another home loss Wednesday could well be the final straw.
I do think Indiana State could give Southern a game. Can't imagine the team's mindset is in a very good place right now, and the Trees have some strong guardplay.

I think they will give us a game... I think in the end SIU will win though. Barnes is really struggling and Indiana State as a whole is really underachieving... Much like a handful of valley teams.
Sounding more and more like this will be a longer drawn out nightmare of a season and Hinson will be there to the bitter end .🤬🤬🤬

This comment alone would have had him in my office, were I the AD, for a 6 am a$$ chewing. In fact it ought to get him shoved out the door. The league may be a one bid league at the moment, that has to do with the mediocre talent and coaching across the MVC. But to say what you do in the regular season has no bearing, is stupid for a coach of his years. Yes, it does matter. It reflects positively on your kids and your program, and puts you in a position to be in position to do some damage at the tournament and in the NCAA.

Is this supposed to install confidence? May I remind you, Mr. Hinson, of your career futility in March at St. Louis.
We should send the MVC standings to Coach Kill with a simple question "WHY?"
AND...this is a recruiting gift for our opponents too. This statement will be used against us until he is gone. Stupid for our media people to include it.

Craving a McBride Special!
Have a feeling the school won't tell him to sit at home and pay him. We're stuck with him for another month month and a half...
Honestly they should just relocate him to Edwardsville.

Yes, and it was up to Southern Illinois to carry the torch after they departed. Don't forget- we were every bit as elite a mid-major as either of them at one time. We haven't held up our end of the deal and it falls directly on Lowery, Hinson, and anyone who enabled them that the MVC has become a "one-bid league."

Just think how this team would fare in the conference 10-12 years ago. When we sent 4 teams to the NCAA tournament, the team Barry has taking the court this year wouldn't have won more than 3-4 conference games all season (if that). If Barry had just been able to maintain the same level of competiveness for this team as it had when he took over, this team would be dominating the MVC. It's sad to see the demise of what once was a great program.
