That's the worst half of basketball I've ever seen.  Wish I'd have stayed home.

Should have walked out during their run.  SIU looked absolutely pathetic.

2nd half-Hensley wide open or in a miss match calling for the ball & no one sees him - multiple times. Protests openly when he gets pulled out of game.
Jorge stops what was probably an easy bucket - a 3 - after a long pass & sharpe covers their big, & fouls—Nagy screams at jorge during the timeout.
8 mins left, Nagy throws up his hands like all is lost, shakes his head, while Hawk is coaching.
I hope I’m misunderstanding Nagys body language.  I watched the bench most of the 2nd half & it looks like chaos.

Disaster 2nd half, this team isn't the same without Mayo.  Might lose out

Seemed to do ok in the first half without him.

This has to be the most consistently inconsistent basketball team I have ever followed.  It seems like one minute they are fired up and competing and shortly after they are pouting, lazy, and don't give flip!  Frustrating and puzzling to say the least!

Really disappointing second half…let a great opportunity slip away.

Really wish coach would have called a TO early in the   2nd half to try to stop momentum,  and set up a play to try to get an easy bucket to protect the lead. It was obvious Belmont had some confidence and siu didn't. May not have mattered anyway but at least there's an attempt. Basically gave that lead away in 4 minutes,  not sure the thought process there.

Had the same thought. Under no circumstance can you let that entire lead evaporate that quickly.

I give the coaching staff credit for the improvement in recent weeks but tonight they looked like a poorly coached team at both ends. Another damaging home loss in a season that has had too many.

It’s been a feast or famine final season for Hensley but unfortunately it’s been more famine lately. He was really down afterward, understandably so. Hopefully he has a few more good performances left in him.

Great job coach Nagy!  Really love your take on the loss!  Excellent post game analysis.  Very insightful!  You are a college basketball ICON.

@salukian I’m just glad we don’t have to listen to a robot doing  emotionless coach speak anymore

I woke up this morning more annoyed than I was last night. Feels like this team desperately needs another leader to emerge outside Mayo. Dibba and Hensley are the seniors, but don’t appear to be vocal leaders. That kind of second half effort can’t happen this late in the season. That’s the team that started 0-5 getting blown out every week. Someone, other than the coaches, should have been chewing their asses out after blowing that lead so quick in the second half. You could hear it in Tatum’s voice on the TV call…that shit wouldn’t fly with him or TY.

I really wish KD would find his voice. I know he’s a sophomore, but this is (hopefully) going to be his team moving forward. They worked so hard to get this thing moving in the right direction…they can’t let this season backslide and become what they were to start conference play.

This team is inconsistent in the coaches first year here.  Exactly what happens in most programs when they change coaches.  If they finish above .500 I will be pleasantly surprised.  Go dawgs!

Certainly a deflating defeat last evening. Two completely different teams per halves. Coach Nagy hinted that he made a statement at the half that he regretted making? Did players quit on him and staff, or was this a classic choke job? 18 point turnaround by the Bruins. Are they truly that good after losing the great players to the portal last off season? Perhaps this is a trend we are witnessing that may not be reversed...Private schools losing key players but restocking. I believe Belmont has two or three players from P5 schools that are solid contributors. 3 out of the 4 top MVC teams are private. Coincidence?

I must say i was hopeful that I would be posting 8-8 MVC on 2-16-25. Sadly, a golden opportunity was lost, and we now sit at 12-15 overall, and 7-9 MVC. A lot of empty seats last night, most notably the student section. I beg the question, what else is there to do on a Saturday evening in The Dirty Dale? Free pizza as well.

Still trusting in the Nagy process, but last night placed a large divot in the fairway. Can it be repaired? Not holding my breath!

GO DAWGS!!!

The seven conference victories show how far this team has come since hitting rock-bottom in early February. These last two losses show we have miles to go before we can contend. I foresee a lengthy offseason to-do list.

By the way, I also thought there'd be a big dropoff at Belmont this season, and that team really seemed to be circling the drain after a bad loss at Valpo and a bad half at SIU, but you've got to give Alexander credit for holding things together and keeping this team among the top four in the MVC. He very well could be poached by a bigger school after the season.
