It didn't have to end up that close, but we already knew that this team's not the type that can blow people out for a full 40 minutes.
In the last 9+ minutes, no buckets and just 7-12 from the line - that'll be a big cause for concern down the road, though. It's tough to pull away late when you keep giving up those points at the line, and other teams will foul the Dawgs over and over again to catch up. If this game were two minutes longer, do they hold on?
But this is a HUGE win in avoiding the Thursday game in St. Louis, and with both the Redturds and Sycamores losing in tough battles tonight, SIU's pretty close to either a #5 or #6 seed now.
Yes, but they have a better chance of playing two games with a Thursday game. Damn, that’s wrong. Sorry.
Basically a game in three parts:
First 6 minutes - no points
Next 22 minutes - 56 points
Last 12 minutes - 9 points
I'm still stumped how a team could be so cold, and then get SO hot, and then back to ice-cold again, but they certainly took their feet off the gas pedal after getting that big lead, and hopefully they've learned NOT to do that again should there be a next time.
I'll take that win, good win, don't mean to sound like im complaining about the win, but this team showed it can play offense if allowed to do so. Coach needs to let them play more often.
I think you've got to get Domask some rest there while you're up 25. He was clearly gassed at the end of the game when there was an opportunity to rest him.
He was needed every minute.
He played all 40 minutes in a game where they led by 25 points at one point. The announcers were saying he was out of breath with like 4:00 left and he did nothing the final few minutes. He's got to get some sort of break

As much as Domask is out there, he's gonna be gassed should there even be any kind of run in the Lou, so the better to start that run on Friday instead of one extra Thursday game.
Who knows what kind of team we'll see there anyway - will it be the one that's usually hard-pressed to break 50, or the one tonight that had that eye-popping offensive outbreak. I think it's probably gonna be the first instead of the second, but at least we know this team CAN score - it's just gotta find a way to do that with any sense of consistency.

Shoulda played 44 minutes! (IF he gave that proverbial 110%!) LOL
Have to say, that looked like Marcus two years ago. Energy, do it all, great scorer! Looked like a 1st team All-Conference player, which has not been the case some games this year.
Whole team looked awesome ... after the first few minutes.
There haven’t been many games with two guys hot on the same night, as was the case with Domask and Coupet, at least in the first half. Great to see Marcus looking like the Marcus of old shooting the ball. Sorely needed. There were certainly some ugly stretches at the beginning and end with sadly characteristic droughts, but it was an overdue good win, and hopefully leads to some fun late-season vibes for the Dawgs.

Marcus Domask postgame:
If Coupet can keep it up and make us a triple-threat team, I might start believing these guys who think we can make a run in the Valley Tourney....

They missed him in the corner at least 3 times in the second half. He is the key to making this offense better.
@rockin-dawg it’s just highly unlikely at this point. Going to enjoy tonight. The season ends two weeks from Friday most likely.
This off-season is gonna be wild either way. I’m sure we will all be looking at what transfer portal/JUCO guys they bring in.
They’re very obviously needed.
Tonight was bizarre. Bradley goes up by 11, we come back and go up 25, Bradley cuts it to just 5 late.
whew. I was never ever worried we would lose this game. But that final 10 minutes was a bit much.
It will be neat to see TWO Salukis cross 1,000 points in the same game on Saturday at Terre Haute.
Great win. Bradley had been on fire, and I was expecting a loss.
I don't really like the way it happened--can we PLEASE get a balanced ass-whooping for once?--but I'm relieved and happy (and, frankly, SHOCKED) with the result.
(Inflammatory political snark)
Great game tonight. Marcus had his legs back and that 42-11 run was truly amazing. Gotta win again on Tuesday! Go Dawgs.
That first half was the most fun I've had watching them all year.
Not to quibble with a great win, but can we get some help from the bench one of these games? Verplanken, in particular, was scoring in the double digits occasionally earlier in the season, but lately he's given us next to nothing.
It was nice to get a win over a top half of the Valley team hopefully we build on this and finish the season strong. Go Dawgs
