Since their two OT squeakers a few weeks ago, they've looked like a team on a mission. If the RPI was still the go-to metric for at-large bids, they'd be nearing the NCAA bubble... but with the NET (and its massively pro-bigs bias... don't get me started!), they have no real shot at reaching the NCAA tourney without winning the auto-bid.Drake up 19 at half.

That shows how much the Elgin inaction has hurt the Valley in general. Honestly he should have been sacked in 2016 by the college presidents.

I’m still hopeful that Drake blows out Bradley again and runs the table and loses to Bradley on Sunday (if it’s not us of course). I think there’s a chance Drake can get in.
@goroshnik I think they're one of the only teams from the MVC that could make some noise in the tournament. DeVries is an NBA player
What made that play so memorable and spectacular is that it actually worked. That play is used hundreds of times in college basketball every year, and works a handful at best. So yeah, what we got without the timeout was probably as good or better than we would have gotten calling one and letting the best defense in the valley set up for the play.I don't have a problem with not taking a timeout there, by the time you called it you would have maybe 3 seconds left to go the full length of the court, you wouldn't have ended up with anything better than the shot they got.
I am highly disappointed in whatever you call what Jones did today. He was so piss poor Mullins benched him. It takes a lot of piss poor play for a coach to bench one of his stars in the biggest game in 15 years. Pretty sure he is in the shithouse right now.
You don't have a problem? Remember the Missouri State game year one? Rather have a shot like that then a half court prayer
Catch with 4.1 call time out….3.8. Get ball to half court….call time out. 2 secs? Set play up, might work might not. If you would have said “ I thought without calling a time out we could have had a better chance than with calling a time out”…I would have been ok with that. But by saying the heave from half court was the best shot we could have gotten, out of any possibility? It was 4.1 seconds….a lot of things can happen in 4.1. Honestly in 4.1 you can dribble down the court and have a pass at the other end….so I will disagree with not calling a time out, and now knowing the shot we got, absolutely disagree.
Johnny, I think we can all agree it is higher than 1% odds to pull off a half court pass, two timeouts and a Domask 3. Probably 25%. But that’s still higher odds than a desperate half court heave.
We could debate the lack of timeout all day but they scored 48 points and don’t run enough good offense. They did not make enough adjustments after last year (scheme, personnel, assistant coaches, etc.) to make the offense better and become a more well-rounded team.
This loss was an indictment of that. Hate it for the players and fans alike, and especially Domask, who deserves better.
Drake wins easily at home.
Win out we avoid the dreaded 4 game weekend
Checking the stats... Xavier Johnson is 21 for 49 from three in conference play this season, good for nearly 43 percent, while Lance is now 37-152, down to 24.3 percent.
Why has your best shooter from three taken 103 fewer shots than your worst shooter from three?!? Why isn't Mullins designing plays to get X the ball more?!?
It's just maddening to see stats like this and wonder why continuing to let Lance try and "shoot out of his funk" while X averages less than three shots a game from deep is considered your game plan. I know Mullins likes the whole senior leadership deal, so maybe it's time to let another leader like X take over for Lance the rest of the way... because I'm long tired of watching Lance shoot us right out of ballgames right now.
Looks like Southern will play the 2:30 game on Friday afternoon, either as the 4 seed or being the 5 seed and beating Evansville on Thursday afternoon.
@fraydog I agree….that’s what I was saying. The half court shot was probably the least likely to succeed out of any of the other options.
