It will be interesting to see where he lands next.....or if he wants to call it a career.

call it a career and hire him at SIU as the AD.  he would be great as a fundraiser. not sure what the chancellor has in mind but BAM could step in tomorrow.  no clue of his admin skills but we all know he works his tail off.  we have had lousy administrators for the last two hires so BAM doesn't have a very high bar to clear as long as he didn't bring in the meatball to assist.  meatball to the aces is a great idea, because expectations are low already.  anyway, I think it is a fantastic idea to bring in BAM as the AD if he would be satisfied with a poor salary at a non P5 sewer.  the jury is still out on that one. he would have to cut that hippie hair though 🤣

We have tried the celebrity AD, with no administrative experience, hire multiple times in the past--with very little success.

I assume you referring to Bruce as a celebrity.

I don't think he is your typical celebrity AD like Jim Hart or Gayle Sayers. both those guys were disasters.

He doesn't have the experience running a full department but he has a load of administrative experience running big programs.

he's got the work ethic and the desire to do the right thing without the room filling ego of the last guy.

there is no one qualified that wants the job and Bruce has a load more experience than anyone that's a junior asst AD applicant we would end up with.

I doubt he is interested anyway but I just don't think I would put him in the class of celebrity in the traditional sense.

I think he checks more boxes than anyone that has applied.

BB,  I agree with you regarding BW's work ethic and desire to do the right thing.  Probably a better man can not apply for the job. However, running a basketball program with 15 +/- young men with a half dozen Grad. Assts. and Asst. coaches is a far cry from overseeing the management and coordination of a total athletic program even in a place as small as SIU.

There are specific management skills and knowledge that are learned through experience and training.  At 65 0n-the-job-training is not to be tinkered with in a place such as SIU.

BW is a celebrity as it relates to name recognition and success as a basketball coach.  I just think we should be looking for someone that can provide the total management package based on education, training, and experience.

If I were in charge of recruiting a new AD, the first thing I would do is call the top 20 ADs (there's a lot of lists) in the Midwest and ask if they could recommend an assistant who might be available.

I 100% agree with your post, but couldn't help but find irony in the statement that he is a celebrity due to his name recognition and success in a related, albeit lesser position.  Kind of reminds me of a certain coach that was hired a few years ago.  😉

I don't disagree with any of that.

Trying not to engage in age discrimination but that would be a concern with BW.

We are doing OJT right now with a 50-something.

You bring up a management package but to date we have attracted a cold pile of saluki poo to apply.

I guess I would rather see someone of BW caliber even for 5 years than the quality of what's applied.

In a perfect scenario I 100% agree with you on our needs.

As far as @insaluki being reminded of a guy we hired two years the comparison is no where close.

One guy was out for himself.

One guy is Bruce.
