We are the Chicago Bears of the MVC….congrats. I know Bryan was average. He had some flaws. What 37 year old coach doesn’t. Could some of those flaws have been corrected? Maybe he was sat down and told you have these flaws and he said….”F U, I ain’t changing”. We are now just a laughing stock to the national media.
What do we offer that is going to attract a quality coach? History of being a good program 17 years ago? Looking forward to the cellar next year.
This is nonsense.
We were paying a first-time head coach 450K, and led the conference in attendance despite having not seen a post-season since 2007.
If you don’t think those two things - alone - are attractive to a young coach looking to move up, I don’t know what to tell you.
It will be interesting to see how quickly--or whether--Mullins gets snatched up for another HC position of similar status to SIU.
That will reveal a lot about his reputation as a head coach among people in "the biz" as opposed to a fan message board.

If I had to guess, he’s joining Moser in Oklahoma or wherever he goes. It could be DePaul. Would be a good landing spot for Bryan and they’d like be able to take advantage of the Illinois Wolves connection again

We won’t be paying the coach 450k this time around and I’d say the attendance might go to show that the fan base weren’t all burning pitch forks for the last coach to be fired.
@salukiworld rumor is that Moser might be the next Ohio State coach - that would be a great job for Bryan as an assistant. Also it's a place where you can recruit talent and win, as former Saluki Thad Matta - now back at Butler doing his magic - has proven.
I'm reading that college basketball assistants don't usually make the kind of money football assistants make. $400K to be a HC in the MVC would be attractive to some big-time assistants I believe.

My point is simply that if he is as good of a head coach as some here think--and he might be--this will be borne out by the HC offers he gets, not the assistant offers he gets.

I’m kind of confused here. I keep reading about young and big time assistants.
I listened to the Tim Leonard interview and he said he isn’t looking for a “learn on the job” coach. He wants someone that is a proven winner, with head coaching experience, and has a proven track record of winning. He also said someone that has hung some banners, or “skins” on the wall as he said.
Who can we afford who has this type of experience, and how do you convince them to come to SIU?
Do we have the NIL resources to get the recruits we need?
Not trying to be a smart a**. Just trying to figure out how this is going to work.
He also made it clear that the level at which they coached doesn't matter. So yes, there are DII and DIII coaches out there that have had success that would very much be interested in moving up.I’m kind of confused here. I keep reading about young and big time assistants.

I hate to see Mullins go but on a positive note I look forward to better inbound plays and less shot clock violations.
@fraydog really??? You get a nice job, some leeway to bring in friends/associates into coaching staff, some leeway to make adjustments, and you after some period of time you get evaluated. We gave meatball a stupid extension and waited too long to pull the trigger. We hired knucklehead and waited too long to pull the trigger. If we're looking to hit a home run on the replacement, then DB is still out there (very high bball IQ), hire him cheap and put incentives into contract (maybe first 2 years based on record and after that on success like conference placement and RPI). How about we keep hiring legends but do so as a top assistant so everyone doesn't transfer when that assistant takes over. We keep messing up on this coaching thing, hopefully do a better job in the future.

@annabob seems good, force him to bring on DB as #1 assistant.

I think you’re underestimating the amount of people mad over this decision. I know the focus should be on the search at this point. What’s done can’t be undone, though. People are going to hurt for a while.
If Indiana State does not get in what is the difference between Scherzer and Hinson? Answer nothing. With the portal and NIL his fate could change in a hurry.

the trees would minimum be in the NIT so there is that
