@sandman95 7 seasons at Southern and Hinson did not win an MVC regular season title and did not advance to the MVC tournament finals. There is a huge difference between Scherzer and Hinson
One of 2 things will happen to Scherzer following this season. If Indiana State does not get in what is the difference between Scherzer and Hinson? Answer nothing. With the portal and NIL his fate could change in a hurry.
1. He will get a huge salary increase at Indiana State and stay.
2. He will become the head coach at a program like Louisville, Oklahoma State or SLU.
Any of your sources know anything about Bryan wanting to wait until the bus got back to cdale to inform the players that he was let go. Only to have players learn from an outside source….that he was fired.
The accuracy of this might not be spot on but some scenario like this likely occurred. From a source with close knowledge to the program.
And for clarification I’m not saying it was on administration side….it could have been someone on Bryan’s Side.
If it did indeed occur it’s just unfortunate that the coach wasn’t the one to be able to break the news to his team.
@fraydog really??? You get a nice job, some leeway to bring in friends/associates into coaching staff, some leeway to make adjustments, and you after some period of time you get evaluated. We gave meatball a stupid extension and waited to long to pull the trigger. We hired knuckle and waited too long to pull the trigger. If we're looking to hit a home run on the replacement, DB is still out (very high bball IQ), hire hime cheap and put incentives into contract (maybe first 2 years based on record and after that on success like conference placement and RPI). We keep messing up on this coaching thing, hopefully do a better job in the future.
I think you’re underestimating the amount of people mad over this decision. I know the focus should be on the search at this point. What’s done can’t be undone, though. People are going to hurt for a while.
Was he given a fair opportunity? Did he fire a few of the original staff and hire over them? I love the guy, but he was given a dream job and couldn't make it work. Upset doesn't get you to the tourney.

It would be pretty shitty if he planned on handling the situation in a classy manner and "someone with inside info" had to go and post it early.

I'm pretty sure that he knew he needed to win out to keep his job before the UNI game. That is the only explanation I have for his not doing the traditional Senior Night thing.
Awful.

we knew about 20 minutes before it was announced is all I got

The majority of people I talked to at the tournament were not happy with the decision. In the end, it’s not the majority, it’s the people that control the purse strings…and like in real life, it’s in the hands of a few. I don’t know if this is where Leonard was headed regardless, but there was certainly some financial pressure too.
I keep waiting on this to sting less and it will eventually, but I’m still stewing and honestly it’s gotten worse over the last few days.
Side note: not to worry, as folks in the SIU section were leaving the game today Kupec was letting folks know we were going to be in the Sunday game next year! Love what he’s done fundraising, but come on man.
I know people are stung because Bryan is a Saluki legend but I think people need to feel good that they have people in charge that are aiming high with the basketball program. Will it work out? I have no idea. But I'm excited to see them take the swing.

Incredibly disappointing that Mullins’ time at SIU ended this way. I had sky-high hopes when he was hired and kind of had a “If he can’t turn this around, not sure it’s going to happen” mindset. Still kinda feel that way, especially in the current NIL and portal environment.
I fully understand the shortcomings of Mullins’ tenure but starting over, and all that goes along with that, is a daunting prospect. And I am skeptical about who is really pulling the strings behind this move. If this is southern Illinois/booster/board politics at play to get their guy in … barf.
If you’re going to fire a coach who consistently brought in high-caliber kids, represented the university extremely well and averaged 21 wins the past couple years because you’re hellbent on getting to the NCAAs ASAP, the bar is pretty damn high for this hire.
Wishing Bryan and his staff the very best. Appreciate all they poured into Saluki basketball and the university.

No idea when the team came back. But Bryan met with Leonard at noon on Friday and that's when he was informed.

Goodman was the first one that publicly leaked at 1:03 PM so there was at least an hour gap there.

they ain’t swinging for shit. They’re trying to drop a bunt down but they’ll foul it off their foot.

it’s always boosters and board members. Terribly run.
