I know people are stung because Bryan is a Saluki legend but I think people need to feel good that they have people in charge that are aiming high with the basketball program. Will it work out? I have no idea. But I'm excited to see them take the swing.
they ain’t swinging for shit. They’re trying to drop a bunt down but they’ll foul it off their foot.

If true, Bryan could reunite with Porter.
I am talking about Hinson at Southwest Missouri State. He had the lowest RPI ever to not make the NCAA tourney.

If Moser/Mullins could get DePaul to even an average team in the Big East that'd get Mullins another shot at a pretty decent mid major I'd say

And it was smoke and mirrors. Their resume was beyond awful and really only gave credence to the people saying the Valley had found a way to game the system.
Speaking of rosters. What is the current transfer rules regarding coaching changes. Can the players who already transferred, transfer again due to coaching change? Can Hensley transfer again?
According to the courts, there are no limitations on transfers.

I'm am so damn sick of people making this argument, "Admin is aiming high" or "raise you expectations". No one here that I'm aware of is okay with 5 more years of this. Most wanted a short extension (2-3 years with a reasonable buy out) to give him more time to get over the hump. People bitching about the lack of signings in recruiting...what high school kid with options is signing with a coach that has 1 year left on his contract...let me answer that for you, no one. The portal was the only way they were going to be able to recruit this year b/c the administration sat on their hands for this long. If he was still unable to get there after the contract extension, I think most would have been fine with cutting ties.
If he were finishing in the bottom half of the valley, I don't think many on here would be complaining about moving on...sad that it didn't work out of course, but ready to move on. The reality is, the only season he did finish that low, our best player went out for the year after 10 games (got hurt in game 6 when we were 6-0, but tried to gut it out). He put out really solid teams, year in and year out, and yes there were moments of frustration, but by and large we had a shot in most games. The fact that we couldn't have a little more patience for someone who gave everything of himself to this university as a player and coach makes me sick.
NCAA appearances and MVC championships are still what this fan base desires, to a person. I don't know why, but the reality that we are behind some of our peer institutions in terms of resources and facilities IN THE MVC hasn't set in for some folks. A twitter account (Major Madness) that has been grading recent job openings has our grades as follows:
Southern Illinois
Job Facilities- A-(Mike Reis's opinion is that this should be C+...I'll link to the thread below for rationale)
Campus- B
Fanbase- A
Location- C
Admin- B
Resources- C-
History- B-
OVR- B-
Summary: SIU tradition is rapidly trending towards ancient history now that the are 16yrs removed from NCAA tourney. Firing the coach who just had the best season since then.
In short, you get what you pay for...if you want to be top of the MVC you need to find the resources to fund your program that way consistently (Indiana State is the exception not the rule). The donors who pushed for this...it's put up or shut up time and I hope the AD/Kupec were able to secure some dollars from these folks pushing for a change.

@siu_2011 that is the best post yet regarding the coaching change. Records and statistics don’t always tell the entire story. Like you, I hope the ones praising the change are ready to pony up.
Reis is right. First off, we do not have a dedicated practice facility for men’s and women’s basketball. If I hit the Powerball that would be done. 🤣🤣🤣
All joking aside, it’s been a need for years.
If we didn’t hit big in the portal the odds were substantial that we would be bottom half with a sub .500 record for the 2024-2025 season. I’m saying that as someone who was in the “2 year extension” camp. If we went backwards I think it would have been obvious in March 2025 a change was going to happen. We also would have avoided a lot of the angst we have now.

I mean didn't we say the same thing last year? I would argue, if the roster largely stayed the same, we were probably in a better position. More proven contributors and not waiting on our two best players to decide if they were staying or going. No doubt we needed some guards from the portal (PG and SG), but I felt more worried last year than I did this year.

I said the same thing all along, and I was in the "two-year extension" camp as well. Even assuming no defections from a decent returning core, we needed a better performance in the portal than we got last year. Maybe Howard could have made a difference, maybe not. If we'd whiffed in the portal, we'd be having the same conversations about Mullins' status next year.
things are getting tense on here. i suggest perhaps a return of the dots thread to calm the waters.

We're just sad that Jerrance Howard is only leaving a trail of purple skittles, rather than four-star recruits, on his way out of town.
