@dunkledog interesting that maybe that they didnt like the area(SIU) from the Mullins dads AAU teams. Maybe they like the big city more. IDK but if Mullins lands at UIC. he will get players (what type) i wouldnt know but UIC did have AAU players on there whether they were Mullins dads IDK
uic will continue to struggle to recruit. Even Chicago kids don’t choose uic. You think Mullins is suddenly going to become a recruiting wiz because he leaves? He chose Cade over Avila he couldn’t get bensen from msu
why did you change the subject I believe Mullins would be an upgrade never said it was an accomplishment just pointed out facts@jabman62 why did bryan lose to them in horrible fashion in the tourney? Why haven’t we seen any results from the wolves pipeline he was supposedly brining. Winning more games than uic isn’t an accomplishment and it’s quite sad siu fans think being mid is an acceptable thing.

If this is your logic almost every coach in the nation is a terrible recruiter. Hind sight is great but coming out of high school Cade was a high level recruit they we beat out some Power 5 schools for. Injuries derailed this….but to say Bryan is a terrible recruiter bc of Cade is a touch off. He actually showed he recruit a little by landing him.
@johnny-utah dunkledog is not high on mullins recruiting. then how did he win 19 and 23 games in the last 2 years. the face of college basketball has change since the inception of the portal and NIL. He has grab soome good recruits but IMHO not good enough for Dunkledog

they played the 343rd best non-con schedule in college basketball. I don’t blame Bryan for that, I thought this was a tough schedule coming into the season but it didn’t work out that way and they beat most of the teams they should beat.

If he wants to knock his recruiting there are other places I would look other than Cade. You wanna say he missed in the portal sure start there.
I don’t look down on the roster as some on here. You want to look at this last portal class…ok he missed and no recruits for this year ok….But I remember hearing alot of praise for:
Ebube
Rupert
Ferguson
Davis Jr
Hensley
Damico…not gonna be your teams star but starting playing better toward the end of the year.
To me what did Mullins in was his end game situation coaching. Seemed like he got tight when the team had a lead late in the game or trying to hold a big lead. The offense became stagnant and waited too late in the shot clock. Sure he missed out on Avila but what other coaches didn’t besides Schertz.
@dunkledog His coaching was a bit confusing at times. but you dont know what goes on in practice. What takes place in film sessions, and match ups will be. us key board warriers think we have all the answers. We dont. sure I was not happy with some of his moves.. but i am not walking in his shoes and dont know what the whole picture is. Would you consider Matt Painter a good coach? Chris Collins,? they have their moments too. they do something that is head scratching. wasnt it last year that Purdue lost in the first round? are you then going to say Painter is not head coaching material getting beat by a 16th seed? until you walk in their shoes, all we are key board warriors who think we know it all..
KIWI are you Dogu or Salukibballfan in disguise? Asking for a close friend.
@barkeep-1967 that’s great news, I’m happy for Bryan. I bet he ends up with a few of our players if this transpires.
I’m glad I’m not the only one on here who doesn’t agree with the decision yet is willing to focus on the future as well as support the next coach. Sometimes it is better to focus on positives especially when there are still plenty of them here at SIU.
IMO, not playing Hornecker a lot more last year was one of BM's biggest failings. I think CH can be a great weapon for the Salukis, and he is certainly our only big that can shoot from farther out than 6 feet. He will be in his 3rd year here with almost no D1 experience.
If we can keep Hornecker, Rupert, Ebube, Davis, Ferguson, and Sharp, we have a very good nucleus. Not sure if Hensley has a year left, but if so, I hope he stays too. The addition of a couple of talented guards and good coaching could turn us into a contender next year.
I'm not sure if a new coach would honor those commitments, but he should.

If Mullins indeed is hired by UIC, my prediction is that D'Amico joins him right away. For whatever reason, he always struck me as a "Bryan guy" through and through, and his quick decision to enter the portal the day after Mullins was let go would seem to confirm that.
Keyboard warrior here, but if the hire is KS,the whole athletic administration should be replaced. The ONLY justification for firing Mullins is confidence someone else will do better.

Their families are close, but yeah he was probably leaving regardless.

If you wanted all of those guys to stay….you probably should have kept Mullins and hire a veteran coach to help with in game scenarios.
No one on here had the authority to make that decision. We only have our own opinions.IMO, not playing Hornecker a lot more last year was one of BM's biggest failings.
