No one on here had the authority to make that decision. We only have our own opinions.IMO, not playing Hornecker a lot more last year was one of BM's biggest failings. I think CH can be a great weapon for the Salukis, and he is certainly our only big that can shoot from farther out than 6 feet. He will be in his 3rd year here with almost no D1 experience.
If we can keep Hornecker, Rupert, Ebube, Davis, Ferguson, and Sharp, we have a very good nucleus. Not sure if Hensley has a year left, but if so, I hope he stays too. The addition of a couple of talented guards and good coaching could turn us into a contender next year.
I'm not sure if a new coach would honor those commitments, but he should.
If you wanted all of those guys to stay….you probably should have kept Mullins and hire a veteran coach to help with in game scenarios.
Im not sure what you are saying….that nobody on this site has the authority to fire or keep Mullins? Yea I know….but to me some posters want their cake and then eat it too….fire Mullins but keep all of his roster intact. Can’t have it both ways. You can’t reasonably expect the majority of the roster to stay intact in todays college basketball after firing a coach. I want Coach K to come here and coach but is that logical.
Concerning Avila, don’t forget that Indiana State got Kent, his high school teammate, to transfer from Bradley. I thought I had read here earlier that there was a timing issue with Avila’s recruitment.
I never heard Mullins say anything about the Wolves pipeline only blowhards on this site saying we would get those players but Mullins went all over to try and find players for himself and the team after all it is called fishing not catching for a reason in other words not all recruits work out@jabman62 why did bryan lose to them in horrible fashion in the tourney? Why haven’t we seen any results from the wolves pipeline he was supposedly brining. Winning more games than uic isn’t an accomplishment and it’s quite sad siu fans think being mid is an acceptable thing.
@barkeep-1967 that’s great news, I’m happy for Bryan. I bet he ends up with a few of our players if this transpires.
Great! Maybe some of the guys on here bitching & moaning about Mullins getting fired and saying they are "done with SIU" can root for UIC next year?

I'll root for Mullins wherever he goes - but of course not over SIU. This is getting hyperbolic from y'all seriously.
I'll also root for whoever ends up at UIC. The MVC will be a better place if they can get back to some of their Jimmy Collins days success

Those guys along with a couple of very good guards and a good coach win the MVC.

I think UIC is a sleeping giant...right in the middle of a great bball city with tons of HS talent. I honestly think athletics has not been important to them, and being so commuter oriented hurts also.
I tend to agree, except sleeping giant maybe a little strong for where I'm at because it's been tough historically for Chicago to keep the top talent there.
They have enrollment and money. With ~35K students there are still a lot living near campus. But the basketball team hasn't had buzz for a long time. Just moving to the MVC shows they are at least trying. The arena needs some interior renovations but I think it was a very good add for the MVC.
There were like 25 students at Loyola games in the early days of the Valley. If UIC improves a lot alums WILL turn out for games.
Hearing Bryan to UIC looking likely
nice! This is going to make for really easy I told you so’s! What do you guys think, year 1 who will finish higher? UIC or SIU?
It’s not about who finishes better next year.
@salukiworld I will support our new coach and of course the Salukis but I will predict this. If Bryan gets the UIC job he will get one of the largest standing ovations we have ever seen in Carbondale and I will be one of them.
as he should. I really hope he gets to come back to the arena someday just for that. The standing ovation Lowery got in his return a couple years ago was nice too.@salukiworld I will support our new coach and of course the Salukis but I will predict this.
