Brian Wardle is John Wooden compared to Mullins.  It shows literally every time they play.  Bradley lost Mast and barely skipped a beat.

To be fair Brian Wardle’s first five seasons are too far off Mullins.  Yes they did make a run and win the tourney in year 4/5.  But in those first 5 years he only finished above .500 in conference one time.  Now years 7,8 and 9….kinda showed continued success. We shall see with Mullins.

Nothing personal, 5 years is enough for me. $2.25 million reasons.

Compare that to Josh Schertz over at Indiana State, who made 300K his first two seasons with the Sycs, and this past fall got a contract extension which bumped it up to $365K per year through the 2027-28 season.

Mullins pulled in $110K more this year than Schertz, and which one is going to the postseason?  If Bryan wants to pay that $27,500 CBI entry fee to mitigate the money he's earned for NO postseason appearances... that'd be a start.

There's a reasonable debate to be had about Mullins' body of work, but not sure comparing him to literally one of the hottest coaches in the country is the most fair comparison. The other side of that equation is, let's see if Schertz is still in Terre Haute come April 1, given the aforementioned salary situation (though I'm sure the Sycs will offer a big raise).

I would like to think Mullins would be capable of results similar to what Wardle gradually built at Bradley, but so far, it hasn't happened. Beating them on Fri night would be a nice step in that direction.

Also ... who gives a rat's ass about the CBI? 😀

The Sycamores played in the CBI last year, and they seemed to do OK this season.  😉

In the past, I was a staunch anti-CBI, anti-CIT guy myself... but now that we're coming up on our 16th straight year without a postseason (and 17th without an NCAA tourney appearance), my view's certainly softened on that proposition... but ONLY if Mullins pays for the CBI entry fee.

Since SIU's paid him $2.375 mil these past five years, no need for the University to shell out another $27,500 when he could afford to do it himself.

In reading up on Mullins' contract, how many of these incentives came to fruition so far?

$10,000 – If Southern Illinois has a single-year APR score of 1,000 or greater.

$10,000 – If the team’s overall GPA is 2.8 or greater for the academic year.

$5,000 – (Additional) if the team’s overall GPA is 3.0 or greater for the academic year.

$10,000 – If Southern Illinois wins 20 or more games in the regular season/postseason.

$15,000 – If Southern Illinois’ home attendance exceeds an average of 6,000 fans.

$5,000 – If a home game at Southern Illinois sells out.

I know none of the other incentives have been reached, which include winning 25+ games in a season, winning either the regular season or MVC tourney title, appearing in and/or winning games in the NCAA or NIT tourney, and if he wins either the MVC or National Coach of the Year.

Wardle is 156 and 136 overall and 85 and 81 in conference in 9 yrs at Bradley take away the last 2 years he is under 500 and yes they took a step back from last year so if that is John Wooden I will pass

I don't want Mullins to be canned.. I'm not happy with the results on the floor, but there are some intangibles, notably the quality of kids he brings in.

And if Hinson got seven years, then BM should too.

But . . .

Would it be too much to ask for him to learn something? He MUST know defense, given his tenure at the original Floorburn U and that, statistically, anyway, we defend well.

So why do we perform so poorly against the top four or five teams in the Valley? We just don't seem to understand the other teams' screens and back cuts. The 5-10 easy baskets the top teams get against us EVERY GAME is maddening.

I just want Mullins to learn.

(Inflammatory political snark)

I would like to see Mullins get a 2 year extension.  That being said the AD needs to clearly lay out some elevated expectations for next season in terms of the coaching we’re seeing this year.  Mullins needs to attend some clinics on offensive sets, in game adjustments, ability to use two bigs on the floor when the situation calls for it, boxing out, rebounding, and following your shot, with the last three being completely embarrassing that we need to see signs of life in basic skills at this level.

Say you marry a girl and it goes horribly wrong and you leave her after 7 years. Then you find another girl that you're really happy with, but it goes south after a couple of years.........would you wait a full 7 years to do it because that's how long your first marriage lasted?  My point of this story is, it's one thing to make a mistake, it's another thing to repeat it.  In other words, I disagree with the argument of extending him solely based on the fact that the last coach lasted 7 years.

I am not saying we should get rid of Mullins (although if it meant we could get Bruce Weber or a similar PROVEN coach I would do it in a heartbeat),  but I am saying a decision should be made SOON.

I don't foresee anything happening at a postgame news conference as it did with Hinson, but it would be nice to get something done quickly and decisively a day or two after the season ends. Paralysis by analysis is a recipe for a dumpster fire. As I've previously stated, I do have some concern about the chancellor's status being in limbo and how that might affect the timeline. Would the AD be empowered in this situation?

Pretty sure there will be a short extension. This is what I’m hearing anyway.

Mullins has majorly frustrated me with certain things - primarily roster management and in-game coaching. But at the same time, there are several parts of his program that I highly respect and absolutely love.

I thought that he showed improvement this season in terms of implementing a style that puts his personnel in the best position to succeed. It's clear that he didn't do that very well in the past couple seasons with Domask/Jones. I still think he's the type of guy, that when given time, will continue to figure out ways to improve his weaknesses. But at the same time, we can't wait forever. We've been competitive over the last few seasons, but not good enough. Our fan base's expectations are higher and I know his are too.

Despite our mediocre/good-not-great teams over the past few years, I have enjoyed Mullins' teams exponentially more than Barry Hinson. I couldn't even bring myself to root for the huckster's BS. But with Mullins, I've got some pride and a vested interest again. I can live with that for a while, and I think it's preferable to a full reset at this point.

I'm all on board for a Mullins 2-year extension. Let's hope he can use his motor and high-IQ to continue growing himself into a better overall coach and get our program over the hump.

they just announced that we averaged over 5000 in attendance so that didn’t hit

@goroshnik

I'd like to see a reverse (subtracting) punishment structure..........

($5,000) Did not win 20 games

($5,000) Did not finish in the top 4 in MVC

($5,000) For not making a post season tournament ($1,000 for each consecutive season failing to make one)

($500) For every home loss

Before anyone gets too upset with the above, I am half kidding !!!!

It is so condescending to act like he isn't working his butt off to be a better coach all the time.  This is his livelihood.
