Mullins has majorly frustrated me with certain things - primarily roster management and in-game coaching. But at the same time, there are several parts of his program that I highly respect and absolutely love.
I thought that he showed improvement this season in terms of implementing a style that puts his personnel in the best position to succeed. It's clear that he didn't do that very well in the past couple seasons with Domask/Jones. I still think he's the type of guy, that when given time, will continue to figure out ways to improve his weaknesses. But at the same time, we can't wait forever. We've been competitive over the last few seasons, but not good enough. Our fan base's expectations are higher and I know his are too.
Despite our mediocre/good-not-great teams over the past few years, I have enjoyed Mullins' teams exponentially more than Barry Hinson. I couldn't even bring myself to root for the huckster's BS. But with Mullins, I've got some pride and a vested interest again. I can live with that for a while, and I think it's preferable to a full reset at this point.
I'm all on board for a Mullins 2-year extension. Let's hope he can use his motor and high-IQ to continue growing himself into a better overall coach and get our program over the hump.
This is so perfectly stated. This is a program I am extremely proud to support right now, and hasn't been bad enough to give up on just yet. I agree, short term extension is exactly what it should be right now.
I can vouch that Bryan & Brendan are both very hard workers. Let's hope it turns into some serious recruiting success this spring. If not, we're in trouble. We all want to see them succeed and most of us are not quite ready to give up just yet. But we need results and soon.
There are so many moving parts to this. I am honestly less confident he gets an extension now
The lack of an extension would be detrimental to the program at this point for more reasons that could be mentioned and if Bryan is let go at some point it will come back to haunt the program because Bryan will be successful somewhere somehow because that is his make-up

I don’t think no extension and keeping Mullins is an option they are considering…if they are, it’s stupid. You either move on or give a small extension. Hinson got that ultimatum year with a team where all the big pieces were coming back (still a stupid decision, but a little more understandable). In a year where you need to recruit big pieces for your roster, you are setup for failure in that scenario.
By extension what exactly are we talking about? He has one more year left on his contract so by extension do you mean adding one year to that or two additional years so he would have 3 years left on his contract?
Coaches with one year left are either let go or extended. You do the math.
I support Bryan and I want him extended. My vote however means nothing.

hinson did not get an ultimatum. he was leaving town even if they beat duke by 50 for the title. they had had enough.
Say you marry a girl and it goes horribly wrong and you leave her after 7 years. Then you find another girl that you're really happy with, but it goes south after a couple of years.........would you wait a full 7 years to do it because that's how long your first marriage lasted? My point of this story is, it's one thing to make a mistake, it's another thing to repeat it. In other words, I disagree with the argument of extending him solely based on the fact that the last coach lasted 7 years.
I am not saying we should get rid of Mullins (although if it meant we could get Bruce Weber or a similar PROVEN coach I would do it in a heartbeat), but I am saying a decision should be made SOON.
finally, someone speaking my language. if i was with the same woman for 7 years, i would probably want to go through a bunch of 1 year deals say, for the next 20 years. but i don't think that works with basketball coaches.
@barkeep-1967 I support Bryan also but I really don't know if what we're talking about is extending one year so he has two years left or two years so he has three years left.
We are talking about I was told he will not be extended. Kinda makes sense. If they were going to extend him they would have already
Again I am just trying to piece things together. I don’t have my usual 100% confidence. I really really hope what I was told changes.

Siu firing everyone, and bringing back Hinson?
