I was once told by someone in the program that it's their job to always know who they want the next guy to be because anything can happen.@salukifan32 id imagine firing a home town legend and siu hall of famer they would want to interview and find the right guy. Hopefully nothing too quick
I'd say if this is really the move they're making, they already have their guy lined up.
@saluki82 guess it just matters if that person knows a good person to be a replacement if they suck at choosing people we are in trouble
Lane had one foot out the door already. Him making a decision on a coach is complete bs. I’m not happy
if he were to get replaced barkeep, do you think they are actually doing a diligent search or at they just filling a spot because they need to hire someone . Idk if they can afford to hire to hire 4 bad coaches in a row, Lowry, Hinson, Mullins and potentially next guy. They gotta be really careful
Lane has his guy already picked out
@barkeep-1967 if lane makes a bad choice he better be shown the door immediately
Hell Lane just tried to leave. Not like he cares

But he isn’t going to NMSU so it’s likely he is here for at least another year, if him not getting the NMSU job is correct.
I disagree with the premise that SIU would be starting over with a new coach. You could make a case that they’d be starting over even if Mullins is back because they lose two starting guards (one of which will be an MVC First Teamer) and the replacements are two guys that couldn’t touch the floor this year. They also have 0 incoming HS recruits to worry about losing. Either way they’re going to have to do work in the portal.
Bro you can’t be this dense. Replacing two guards vs. building an entirely new staff and roster are two very different things. There is talent on this roster to build around. I’m not expecting another player to have an XJ like jump on the roster, but we are in a much better position than last year, especially for recruiting the portal (not knowing if Jones and Domask were coming back I firmly believe hurt us in recruiting).
Edit: I should have clarified, I think most of our roster talent leaves with Mullins. Don’t expect Davis or D’Amico or Rupert, or Ebube to stick around…maybe some leave if Mullins stays, but he will certainly not have as many holes to fill as a new coach.
Part of my reasoning for another year would be to let Jerrance cook.
Maybe the administration knows something we don’t?
@fraydog what if they are promoting jerrance so they don’t lose all the remaining players ?
@fraydog this is all happening so quick. How hard is it to ask for an offense first coach for siu. Seems like that’s never a focus

yeah, I’ve thinking about this exact thing since last night.
When you have a school adminstrator who fancies themselves to be a basketball expert…well, what could possibly go wrong?
If history is a guide, look no further than the Allen Van Winkle hire.
