According to Saluki 4 Life and the rest of the Koolaid crowd, yes.  Being picked 9th and finishing 5th or 6th is a great accomplishment and we are being selfish and unreasonable to expect more from Saluki Basketball. 🙄

Keep in mind, they were picked 9th without the knowledge that Xavier Johnson would be a top 30 (conservatively) player in the country.  Now the staff does get credit for adding him in the portal and developing him so you can’t take that away from them but the fact they were picked 9th in the first place in Year 5 is pretty depressing.  And in my opinion, they might be picked close to that again next year just based on the returning players.

What are the expectations of Mullins and SIU basketball? Is a middle of the pack Valley finish okay with most people? He has had 5 years to fix it. Unlike some people on here I don’t expect next year his 6th year to be better after all he will be losing his starting guards. I personally expect more but apparently I am being unreasonable. It just pains me to see Drake, Indiana State and Bradley three teams we use to own move way up the Valley hierarchy. I guess I should come to the realization that SIU basketball is medicore at best and accept it.

With our beautiful facilities, recent improvements, and long storied history, I believe expectations should be to win the MVC every year. At the very least finish near the top each year. Our fanbase is passionate and loyal, and we most certainly deserve a winner. It seems like Drake, Bradley, Indiana State, and other conference members feel the same, and have surpassed SIU in many areas. Is NIL allocated the difference?

Perhaps this question is better suited for the AD, and the Chancellor. Would not be surprised in the least that those two administrators have some candidates in mind. I have heard that Chancellor Lane has a bold and aggressive vision for the future of Saluki athletics, so just an assumption he will have some say in the next HC.

All I can say is tread lightly wishing for a new coach…..going back and looking at names of some of finalists for the past job openings.

Whoof!

Might have been set further back if some of those were hired.

Not saying we can’t hit a home run hire but might switch up where we need to be looking if they choose that route.

I am on the fence…..need some results rather shortly.

Yep. Safe to say Josh Schertzes don't exactly grow on trees.

Like the pun??

These are the type of comments that make me crazy.  Why does it have to be one way or the other.  You want to keep Mullins and that makes you a Kool Aid drinker?  What I am is a Saluki fan.  If you're happy about us being better than we expected it makes you some kind of a different type of fan?  I have said from the start of Mullins coming here that he is my guy and I am sticking to it.  I would give him an extension for recruiting and give him 5 more years to build the culture and team the way he wants.  Are there things I don't like that he does, yes!  But i don't feel the need to constantly post those things on a fan site.  Go dawgs!

Exactly!!

”You have a different take/opinion on the coach than I have…..Kool-Aid drinker.”

We all want the best for the Salukis some want more time some don’t….no biggie.

On a side note: You know who else wants the best? The AD….its fun watching him at close games pacing by the south floor entrance, or reacting to poor officiating.  Being able to attend all home games and not just watch on tv you get to see things that aren’t noticeable when watching on tv.  It’s fun watching the players and coaches interact to positive or negative plays.

Let’s go Dawgs.

Mullins is getting mentioned for the now-open DePaul job!

https://twitter.com/trillydonovan/status/1749510539435299157?s=46&t=7s0hTttieSER8wqRSA0LoA

who would want to go to that dumpster fire when was the last time they were relevant

I think DePaul is still a good job.  The Big East is a great conference.  DePaul has been really lazy with their past few coaching hires.  I think a guy like Josh Schertz would be a great hire for them.

Best of luck to the person that takes the DePaul job.  They commented on ESPN Chicago today that many feel DePaul is in the wrong league if they want to be competitive.  They might…..and the key is might be competitive in the A10.

Back in the day, Ray Meyer's DePaul club lost to Indy St and Bird by 2 points in the Final Four - heckuva game. They won the 3rd place game (no longer held).

Dana Ford's AD is publicly criticizing the team's effort a few weeks ago and it looked like he was out the door by the end of the season and he just schooled Mullins in his own building.  I don't see who is worse right now.

I want Bryan to succeed very badly, but that was some of the worst in-game coaching I've ever seen at the D-1 level.
