The issue is Mullins was not performing. The team was mediocre. It was completely uncompetitive against decent teams. Recruiting and working the portal were both well below average.
How long a leash did people expect Mullins to have?
I think those things were improving and we were still competitive. I think we would have been in a great spot moving forward. This is my prediction, things are about to get a whole lot worse and we are going to be much further away from where we want to be. Bryan Mullins for all the things he was not, was going to be successful here in my opinion. He was already doing decent. People who don't think this can get worse are lying to themselves...
I don’t have names but I think we might get news today. I just don’t know what the Dayton plane is doing though. I guess it’s possible it has nothing to do with the search?
If SIU indeed is considering someone from the Dayton staff -- especially Ricardo Greer -- I'd think twice before criticizing the possible hire. I used to to do some consulting work for a media company in Dayton and thus know a lot about the basketball program, which is a very classy operation. The arena seats more than 13,000 and is packed for every home game. The program is a consistent winner and very well could have reached the Final Four in 2020 if not for the pandemic. Much of the staff has been together since Anthony Grant took over; Grant was only OK at Alabama and did get fired, but he has done a fine job at Dayton. He was criticized for a boring offense at Alabama but since has switched to an up-tempo, crowd-pleasing style. Not saying we couldn't do better than someone from that staff, but we could do far, far worse.
If this search ends with SIU hiring Dana Ford or Kent Williams, then I give you permission to be exhausting

Which part? I am 100% sure we had candidates on campus weeks ago. Conducted a round of interviews and walk through of the facilities. We are now firing back up interviews. i am inferring that we are now onto candidates much lower on our list than the 3 (at least) that were on campus...
