How can this even be an option? Unless I'm missing something, which is possible, his team went 14-15 at JAL this season. He has no DIV 1 experience. I'm at a loss. If this happens, I doubt we see an average of 3-4,000 fans per game next year and we finish at the bottom of the Valley.
This hire, if it happens, has "Joe Gottfried II" written all over it.

So if it is Kyle Smithpeters are they looking to put more money in NIL and offer him a lower salary? That is the only way I can see this making sense. Unless I'm totally missing something here.

This isn’t even about not liking Kyle as a candidate, it’s just that there is a galaxy of difference between Kyle and his younger brother Tyler. Kyle is 10 years older, was a crazy recruiter as JALC, had his program atop the D1 JUCO standings every year, and now has a year of assistant experience in the SEC to boot.
Tyler can’t even use the proper form of “he and I” instead of “me and him” grammar when giving public interviews (not racking on Tyler, I was 27 once too, just saying). Yeah sure, SIU is going to send him up to Arch Madness to give conference calls and attend award banquets LOL! How did anyone think even SIU could ever be that stupid?
