I'm not upset that Leonard hasn't made a decision yet. Good God, it's only been a week. For all you folks out there doing a ton of research regarding who's available, more power to you. That's not my bag. I'll just wait until the announcement is made. How's that?
Here is a link to mid major salary database….it is somewhat outdated 2019-20 I think but gives you an idea of what some coaches are making.

The longer this draws out the more likely it is Leonard is in on, or will at least try to get in on, candidates who are current head coaches and whose teams are still playing, which is a good sign.
He said in his interview in the Southern Illinoisan that most, if not all the coaches are still coaching. Nothing will be announced until those coaches seasons are over. Also, he will want to conduct in person interviews with those coaches. That probably isn't feasible until their seasons are over. Realistically, there will not be an announcement until after the 1st round of the ncaa tournament at the earliest. Could be much later if it's a d2 coach that makes a deep run.The longer this draws out the more likely it is Leonard is in on, or will at least try to get in on, candidates who are current head coaches and whose teams are still playing, which is a good sign.
Michigan coach fired after 8-23 season!
I hope Leonard knows what he's doing, because the reception of Mullins' being fired hasn't exactly attracted great press and reactions outside of the SIU community. And we'll likely be competing with Missouri St. and UIC for some of those same coaches.
when we have the new coach in the fold. the big test not for the new coach but for the athletic department ticket sales, is the season ticket renewals. i do not know what the present season ticket numbers are? lets see how that plays out. some may take a wait and see approach. but IT COULD BE a barometer of what the season ticket holders think of the firing and hiring.
With the way our roster is dwindling, sounds like we'd better sign a coach who can bring in some players!

Dont feel that will be accurate. I’ll be keeping mine….not because I’m super happy with the decision but I am a Saluki fan. I feel there will be other ways of people showing displeasure. The athletic dept will really have to work hard to repeat this years attendance numbers…..especially if the product on the floor is bad.

Time will tell. Some of the STH. Will have a wait and see approach. Skip a year and attend games to see what is on the floor and judge the product. It is going to be having a hard sell to keep them IF the product is terrible

If we follow that logic, the fans weren't overly excited about Hinson being replaced by Mullins because in his first year, the attendance increased by only 2.6%. I would GUESS that as long as the coach isn't universally disliked from day 1, we would see attendance around where it was in Mullins 1st year (which admittedly would be a drop from this most recent year of around 10%).
Hinson was kept too long and a lot of fans were pissed off including me. I gave up my seats for the first time ever for Hinson's last year and came back but some didn't come back right away. Other than the coach being let go, these are two very different situations.when we have the new coach in the fold. the big test not for the new coach but for the athletic department ticket sales, is the season ticket renewals. i do not know what the present season ticket numbers are? lets see how that plays out. some may take a wait and see approach. but IT COULD BE a barometer of what the season ticket holders think of the firing and hiring.

This is quite a tangent as we await billowing white smoke from Lingle Hall, but for further context, Hinson’s last team was loaded with seniors and theoretically supposed to contend, whereas the cupboard was left mostly bare for Mullins’ first season. Southern was expected to be bad.
So I would contend higher attendance for Mullins’ first year showed how ready for the change the fans were. Not sure the same dynamic will exist this time.

Wyatt is great. I wish Southern had a beat writer like him.
