Darius to NIU. He should develop into an upper-level MAC player, although Montgomery is on somewhat thin ice in DeKalb. Guessing his dad will follow, but I don't know that for sure.

Kind of figured this might happen when I saw him follow German

Personally didn't think he looked all that great as a freshman.

He had flashes and would been a solid piece if he stayed

I think he showed enough moments as a Freshman to show he can be good at one point.  Not sure he’ll be better than Anthony was but he would have been a nice piece to keep.  I wouldn’t have kept Beane Sr. on staff to keep him though so oh well.

He regressed in the last month of the season but showed a good motor, willingness to attack the rim and looks like he'll be a really good rebounder for a guard. If he can develop a consistent jumper, he'll be a really nice player. But man, NIU's home atmosphere makes the final year or two of the Lowery era seem like Rupp Arena.

NIU could be a tournament team this year with Eugene German.  Beane is eligible to play right away with the coaching change, right?  Or does he have to sit a year?

I think he'd still have to sit, but more waivers have been granted the last year or two, so it seems like the landscape is shifting a bit. It also takes forever for them to rule on waivers in a lot of cases ... I know Missouri State had a few players in limbo even after the season started last year.

Neither did Jamaal Tatum - as a freshman. Most freshman don't look great (unless they're paid professionals at Kentucky, Duke, UNC )  Beane showed flashes of talent at times but not as good late in the season. Not a great shooter. Brother Anthony was a better shooter.

Think he'll develop into good guard in a year or two.

A coaching change the kid can play right away no sitting a year .?

He will likely receive a waiver if he is academically eligible. Hate to see him wither away at NIU.

Craving a McBride Special!

NIU is a college basketball non-starter.....and DeKalb is a wasteland.  I think Darius has a lot of potential.  Wish he would have stuck with SIU, but best of luck to him.
