I loathe the Illini and their fanbase. But I am genuinely happy for Marcus to get to play in the Big Ten.

I hope he enjoys the one game he'll play in the NIT this year.

Wish he would have picked one of the other 73 Big Ten teams or however many they have now.

Happy for MD to be in Big Ten but Underwood is not a good coach and has a hard time retaining player.

I suspect this came down to NIL. Illinois is a big player; they likely made a better offer than Wisconsin.

I don't really see this as a great fit, but I guess that's primarily because of how little I think of Brad Underwood. I don't see Marcus meshing well with that personality.

73 is how many teams they get in the NCAA tourney every year and 72 of them lose in the first 2 rounds.

basically left for the same team, i could see SIU splitting with Illinois last year just depending on which team scored over 45 that night

Not even close.  Illinois was a 9 seed at-large and SIU wasn't even in the running for an NIT.

While I'm happy that MD will receive more than the $100,000 LJ received from Purdue, he's certainly not going to an elite program. Underwood is a screamer and whiner.  Not sure how MD will respond to that after being in a class program like SIU. For the record, BIG received 8 bids this year, and only one made it to the second weekend. 9 got in last year. A joke, quite possibly the most overrated Power 5 conference in the nation.

For those folks on this message board that are illini fans, maybe they'll finally win a game in the tournament, because we know that they certainly will have earned getting in. 🙁

GO DAWGS!!!

What has being a class program gotten SIU?  They had 2 Big Ten guys on their roster and barely made it past Friday once in 4 years.  They're very likely going to lose at least 20 games this season barring some miracles in the portal.

What exactly has building a culture done for SIU basketball?  Silly me thought building a culture also entailed winning championships and going to the NCAA tournament. 16 years and counting for postseason play and the best we can do is mock Illinois for not going to the sweet 16. But hey we run a clean program. ☹

I do actually think there is value in having a strong culture, doing well academically, having kids that are good in the community, etc. I give Mullins props for his efforts in that area and won't minimize it.

But, you can do those things AND run better offense/develop more than two scorers. Waiting on that part ...

I don't disagree but you better have more than that or you are going to be looking for another job. You are not in charge of the Chess team. I doubt many fans asked about those things from 2002-2007.
