@mdogs1 I do remember a lot of concern and questions about Rolan Roberts when he transferred.

What exactly has building a culture done for SIU basketball?  Silly me thought building a culture also entailed winning championships and going to the NCAA tournament. 16 years and counting for postseason play and the best we can do is mock Illinois for not going to the sweet 16. But hey we run a clean program. ☹

I do actually think there is value in having a strong culture, doing well academically, having kids that are good in the community, etc. I give Mullins props for his efforts in that area and won't minimize it.

But, you can do those things AND run better offense/develop more than two scorers. Waiting on that part ...

I don't disagree but you better have more than that or you are going to be looking for another job. You are not in charge of the Chess team. I doubt many fans asked about those things from 2002-2007.

Ha. Agreed. I want a Saluki chess sweatshirt, by the way, if that's a thing.

There are different levels of success for these two programs.  I would equate a sweet 16 run for UofI as equivalent to making the tourney for us.

I have been an optimist for the past several seasons.  Season ticket holder, graduated SIU in 07….we know what has happened since.  But man what a bummer the last week has been.  Knowing we’ve had two BIG talents and not being able to piece together anything to go with them.  I would say a lot on this board are just as bad judging talent as the last few coaching staffs.  I remember hearing “Porter Moser can’t coach, he’s terrible.  Bryan is the reason….blah blah blah.”  I had faith, but man I’m bummed. I want Bryan to succeed, but time and patience is running thin.  A lot of the time I rely on the board a lot for incoming recruits, but I would say the board has also whiffed on how good the players are that are coming in.  I hope the hype on Davis is correct.  I will continue being a fan and buying season tickets but it’s a bummer right now.  No more excuses….other programs figure it out in less time or are  able to stop gap losses. Time for us to look in the mirror and not be afraid to make the proper (maybe hard) adjustments and right the ship.

Domask did what was best for himself.

Better program.
Better competition.
Better facilities.
More money.

Not sure how people can criticize the guy.

Maybe if he left during our heyday, but leaving now really makes sense.

MEDIOCRITY.

Never believed that crap about Moser. He's a good coach and has learned a few things over the years. No doubt BM helped recruit some good players. If you can't recruit, you are not going to win in D1.

Not sure I think much of the coaching staff Mullins has put together. Think there must be some changes.

Domask has committed to Illinois per his Instagram

Bad choice. I'm wondering if Wisconsin was not interested. Their style of play and better coaching is such a better fit IMO. Marcus will get to go to the NIT.

Lance will go to the Final Four if Edey comes back.

I suspect Wisconsin couldn't match Illinois' NIL offer.

Wisconsin didn’t recruit Domask out of high school despite winning Mr. Basketball and having a great high school career in the state of Wisconsin.  That’s something you don’t forget.  Wisconsin in general has been a dumpster fire under Gard and hasn’t recruited Wisconsin at all.

Maybe what sealed the to deal to Illinois was, Underwood promised Marcus less playing time.  We won't play you 39 minutes a game. You'll only get 28-32 minutes a game, but you won't be worn out by mid January.

I guarantee you he will not be playing 38 to 40 minutes again. When you've got talent at a lot of positions you don't need to ruin your best players by exhausting them.
