What does Belmont lose? Pretty sure Murphy and Muszynski are eligible to come back
Scottie Ebube and Drake RS G Connor Enright were teammates on a Mundelein team that won the Carbondale Holiday Tournament (RIP). Scottie was MVP and Enright First Team, IIRC.

Really? See I don't even know anymore I guess. It's so confusing where everyone is with eligibility.

I could be wrong but both have played 4 full seasons after this year. So I'd assume they'll be eligible for the 5th covid year
I was lucky enough to get to go to last night's game again. Man our defense is elite. Our offense...isn't. Overall proud of the effort. We got hosed on that final foul, we very well may win if not for that. The last possession is inexcusable. Did Domask let time get away from him or was the plan to just get one shot? If so, that is a bold, and stupid strategy. We very well could be preseason #2 next year behind Murray. Old teams win close games in this league, and when we aren't playing exclusively 24 year old's on the top teams, I fully expect us to win a lot of games!
I don't think this team is that far off. Frustrating to lose the past two the way we have and beyond frustrating to not get a shot off against Drake on the final possession but I think we need to keep some perspective when we throw out stats regarding our record over the past 2-3 years. Last year's schedule was brutal due to covid and we were playing without Domask. This year Lance Jones is clearly hindered by that toe injury and if he were completely healthy he might be capable of taking a lot of these games over. So looking beyond the stats and the record just watch these boys play and you can see they are right there, they're just struggling to get over the hump but we're still a young team and they will get over that hump in time. My bet would be sooner rather than later.

Every team is dealing with COVID and injuries. If you can't win with injuries, then you just don't have enough talent and depth. Drake was decimated by injuries last year and kept winning. They didn't have Tank Hemphill last night, arguably their most important player, and still won.
With the style of play Mullins brings, I think you're always going to have guys with nagging injuries. It was Aaron Cook in year 1, then Domask last year, now it's Brown/Harvey/Jones. The problem the last 2 years is SIU doesn't have the talent and depth to make up for these injuries.
I’m not upset with the team. Drake was an NCAA tournament team last year and won a game.
I am upset with the last possession that’s it. No acceptable excuse for not getting a shot off. I just don’t understand running the clock down to win or lose right there. Get a quick shot if it goes in play D. If not you foul and the most you can be down is 3 with another chance.
Yes. This is coaching 101 in clock management. I couldn't believe what I was watching. Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen a team, at home, down by 1 with that much time left piddle away the clock to try and win it at the buzzer. Bizarre.
--Insert something witty here--
I am not sure how you watch SIU and think they are miles off. If there is a no call last night on Drakes last possession, which there should have been no call, would you feel different? They are right there in every single game, even tough ones. I think like Domask said, they are closer than people realize. I think the Lance Jones injury has been a killer for this team, do you remember how good he was last year? unstoppable at times.
The only 5th year Senior Drake was playing was Ayo Akinwole who played 13 minutes and Drake played their true Freshman DeVries 31 minutes and he was maybe the best player on the court. Drake was also missing Hemphill, one of their best players.
And it's not like SIU is young. SIU's starting lineup has 4 Juniors and 1 5th year Senior in Coupet.
DeVries built up a Tournament team at Drake with this group in 3 seasons.
Drake is the oldest team in the NCAA. That’s just fact. It was on the broadcast last night
No, BK... We have to keep up this narrative that we are old.... Even though nobody lost their seniors last year so our "juniors" are still 3 years younger than them... I really think everyone needs to chill a bit. We are right there, against good teams, home and away. It isn't time to go back to the drawing board it's time to build on this.
Nobody said we were old, but when your best players are in their 3rd year of college ball, they don't qualify as young. That other teams are old excuse is just bs. Ask Mullins.
Murray's Tevin Brown and KJ Williams, 1st team OVC, are both juniors. Murray will be tough next year.

Not one of Bryan's better moments. That said, with a healthy Lance, we wouldn't need to make a last second shot and would probably have won the last two.
I agree that there was no excuse for not getting a shot off at the end of the game. That is completely on coaching. I hope lesson was learned. I think Brian is learning a lot but there are still mistakes that can be kind of glaring. It is not always what happens that matters the most it is what you do with what you learn from it.

Pretty important to remember we hired a coach to take on a full rebuild with almost every scholarship to fill AND we absolutely knew he would be learning on the job. He and this team are going to get there. I believe in Bryan Mullins as much as I have believed in anyone, he is not going to accept being mediocre, I am sure of it.
I am just making an observation. There isn't anyone else I would want as coach for this team. I agree, Brian will learn, his staff will continue to learn, and we will continue to get better, i have complete faith in that.

Eh, Hemphill is really good, but Romen Penn is far and away their most important player.

Maybe Mike McCarthy called the last play.
