I remember Reis saying that when the MVC went to the ESPN3 deal, all schools had to have broadcasters for that, and that using the Saluki Radio feed was not allowed.

Well now that we're on ESPN-Plus, I've been watching a few games around the country, and lots of teams (like Murray State, and this Youngstown-Central Mich. game I'm watching) are using their radio feed for the audio.

So why can't SIU do this? I'm pretty sure everybody would prefer Reis, especially since the ESPN games now cost money.

My guess is because Reis is one long advertising show with a little bit of basketball thrown in. I doubt ESPN wants to give away constant ads for free. The few other schools I've watched that use radio don't have constant in game advertising.

Calling Reis' coverage of a Saluki game as a "little bit of basketball" is ridiculous and insolent!

Mike Reis is a PROFESSIONAL!   Reis is one of the best live play-by-play sportscasters in the business.  I rarely watch a live Saluki game in the Arena without listening to Mike Reis through my headphones.  He brings so many details and running stats to the game that the scoreboard just doesn't show.

In my opinion, Mike Reis' sportscasting performance is what I use to judge every sportscaster in the business, be it radio or television.  There are very few sportscaters that can reach Mike's level.

It would be tremendous if ESPN+ would use Mike as its play-by-play for Saluki games.  I am sure that the Learfield Sports radio sponsor advertisements you are referring to would correspond with the ESPN+ commercials.

Hopefully Greg Starrick can rejoin him on the Saluki home court sideline in the near future!  They make a great team!   I am sure it will be a while before Greg would be medically cleared to undertake a vigorous travel schedule.  Get well Greg Starrick!

The ads are on Learfield, Reis has to read what they put out for him to read, otherwise they spring for a younger and cheaper announcer.

WOW! we are actually at a point that people are taking shots at Reis? The best play by play announcer that I have ever listened to... I am completely done with this lame ass, whining, boring, quiet fan base.  You all can be loud and obnoxious on here but then get to the arena and you could hear a pin drop even during a sell out.  pathetic.

Because Reis does so many in game readers that are not part of the ESPN plus package his audio is not allowed. And they do not want to go against the package as it was agreed to when they originally signed the deal with the Valley and ESPN. Reis is the best...there is no comparison. Do all the readers he has to do take away from the action sometimes? yes...but you have to pay the bills!!!

Oh settle down drama queen.  It's not a shot at Reis.  It's a shot at the fact that we hear more ads than commentary.  No one blames Reis. Starrick can't even get a word in.  It's a shame and it's the reason the radio audio is not used on ESPN whether you like it or not.

Sure sounded exactly like a shot at Reis!  You failed sensitivity training? LOL

I usually watch the games on ESPN+ muted and get the commentary from Mr. Reis on SIUSALUKIS.com. The audio is usually ahead for me, but I can pause it until the video catches up with it. Usually once or twice a game I have to reload the audio stream from SIUSALUKIS.com. Every time I reload I have to listen to the some crap about the Learfield Director's Cup being the crowning achievement in sports - really annoying. The web page could set a cookie with a time stamp so  that doesn't happen. I blame Learfield and SIU's need for money, not Mike. He's great.

Another factor in this is that Learfield isn't willing to provide its radio feed to ESPN without appropriate compensation.  I agree that the games are oversaturated with ads, but it keeps the lights on.

Listen to any Learfield broadcast outside of SIU’s. It’s the same thing. That’s the norm for college broadcasts in 2018.

Hey woogers - download the TuneIn Radio App. They have the Saluki Sports Radio network now and it bypasses straight to the live audio instead of listening to that directors cup crap.
