I am not an idiot I understand plenty of what is going on but to accept a team with no heart and no fight and no work ethic to get better is unacceptable don't care who coaches or who plays this team has to take pride in the future and not accept this lack of urgency to get better
Bryan Mullins would look good on the sidelines right about now. Program going into a tailspin. Tim Leonard is a buffoon. Congrats to everyone tho on this awesome new era!
Now now Mrs. Mullins. Five years of mediocrity speaks for itself.
Mullins had a winning record. His style might not have been your cup of tea. He would have lit a fire under this team for a lack of effort. It would seem that Nagy has not done that or if he has. It hasn’t sunk in or the team has check out.
Hinson had a wining record too and accomplished just as much as Mullins. There’s no excuse for this season but pretending Mullins had something rolling here is just lying. Unless you like 6th place and losing to UIC on Thursday in St. Louis.
Mullins had his faults. There were somethings that baffled me. At least thou you got a full effort from his players. He might have been out coached sometimes. No matter what his players gave you an effort winning or losing a game. This team is 5-10 and 2 of those wins were against D2 schools. Half way through this season and I really don’t see more than 2-3 more wins.
I actually forgot the game was this afternoon... and apparently, so did the Dawgs.
Welp, the question on whether or not this team's gonna lose 20 games might be put to rest now. There's nothing at the moment that this team is showing us that'll prevent them from doing just that.
Good thing there's a pretty damn good Peach Bowl on the air right now to distract me from this embarrassment.

Mullins could coach D but he was a bad offensive coach. He had 2 Big 10 All-Conference players, neither of which he recruited, but could never get over the hump. We paid him 2 million + for so-so results.
I am absolutely willing to give Nagy a few years - he's a much more experienced and successful head coach. Lot of idiots on here with insane expectations and snap judgements IMO.
Go Dawgs!
We are paying Nagy, $6K a year for 5 years.
3. million. This is the effort that you get from the players. It’s not acceptable. You recruited these players. So it’s on him. Maybe the talent is not there but THE EFFORT should be! No excuse that they’re going through the motions which not only I observed. But the announcers and some that have also witnessed this. I believe the fans of. SIU at least deserve a better effort for their loyalty to this program!
I am just not sure where this team can go after losing at home by double digits to a 300 RPI team.

0-20 is well in play. This is currently the worst KenPom SIU season since KenPom started recording. And it might get worse.

Nagy admitted as much to LM. He said the cure is recruiting and also said the coaches need to gain the players confidence so they listen. But he also said he's not giving up on these guys. Also admitted to embarrassment but says we'll get there. I believe him. Without EE, we're going to finish at or near the bottom. I've know that since EE got injured.
But I'm sure as hell not wanting to go back to the last regime - that was an 8 year rebuild if ever. More likely never. Some Mullins fans are still wanting to go back to losing to UIC in game 1 of the MVC tournament.
I've been defending Nagy all season, but this team has checked out. That has to be at least partially on the Coaching Staff.
I was thinking this might be our worst team since Lowery's 8-22 campaign. But now I'm thinking it may go beyond that. We could literally challenge Joe Gottfried's record of futility.
Nagy needs to keep maybe 4-5 guys and let the rest walk. And those few guys better work their asses off in the off-season. Brutal.
Given that one of the main observations is lack of effort, I've been thinking along the same lines for the past few games now. Nagy will have to show some ruthlessness next spring. Determine who's taking pride in wearing a Saluki uniform and keep them. Determine which guys are the type of college basketball mercenaries who are all too common in the portal era and tell them it's time to go. And let's recruit more shooters beyond the two we have coming in, for crying out loud. It's too much to ask of a freshman to turn things around by himself, but I am encouraged by the reports about Luke Walsh because it seems like he really wants to be a Saluki and could provide immediate help with his skill set and approach to the game -- as long as what he's seeing in Carbondale right now doesn't persuade him to change his plans.
Also, I think Mr. Woogers' point about a talent gap without Elliott is very valid. It's not a stretch to say this season died Nov. 22 in Gainesville, Fla.

It’s concerning that these are the players he recruited. When recruiting these players did he not recognize the traits these players are currently showing with effort or did he just overlook them for a quick fix? What is going to keep him from making the same mistake on the recruiting trail? I hope it can be correcting this next go round.
If you are a player and hear the comment about recruiting being the cure to our current problems, it’s hard to think that Nagy can get this team back (I’m not saying he’s wrong either, just really surprised he said that).
Maybe that lights a fire under some of these guys…my guess is it won’t, at least not based on what we’ve seen to date.
KenPom has us at 3 wins the rest of the season. Home vs Missouri State, Home vs UIC (doubt it watching them today), Home vs Valparaiso. With other randomness/toss-ups, it has us finishing 6-14. I don't see them getting more than 3.
If Nagy recruited a whole team for this year and by the sounds of the post game interview he said the cure is recruiting who has confidence he can fill a roster next year especially when he doesn't like the portal in today's game you are going to replace parts of your roster on a yearly basis the years of retaining your roster so the head coach better be a great developer of talent or learn to embrace the portsl
Getting spanked by 4 guys with absolutely 0 muscle tone. Just out hustled, and better coached.
Have you ever heard Johnny Winter play the Blues? Muscle tone is overrated. 😊

Tony Bennett retired due to that portal/NIL craziness. Jim Larranaga retired in the middle of the season due to the NIL craziness. Very few coaches like it. The NCAA needs to address it.
Nagy also said something to the effect that he's not throwing these guys away or giving up on them. He meant recruiting over a period of years.
UIC just
took down the 12-0 Drake team, with a new HC and rebuilt roster. 9-4 and 2-1 in the Valley
