If Nagy recruited a whole team for this year and by the sounds of the post game interview he said the cure is recruiting who has confidence he can fill a roster next year especially when he doesn't like the portal in today's game you are going to replace parts of your roster on a yearly basis the years of retaining your roster so the head coach better be a great developer of talent or learn to embrace the portsl

Tony Bennett retired due to that portal/NIL craziness. Jim Larranaga retired in the middle of the season due to the NIL craziness. Very few coaches like it. The NCAA needs to address it.

Nagy also said something to the effect that he's not throwing these guys away or giving up on them. He meant recruiting over a period of years.

He said that, but it felt like a bit of a backtracking after the comment. Again, given what I’ve seen so far this year, I don’t disagree with him…but he probably wanted to stick his foot in his mouth.

The thing I see is not the coaches giving up on the team (Mamon was on his feet encouraging the entire second half), but the players giving up on each other/the team (not all of them) and that is far more concerning.

When you’re this bad, it’s not just one thing, it’s a lot of things. Players lacking confidence. Lack of attention to detail/poor execution. Lack of mental toughness when adversity hits. The list goes on. This season is a mess, so I’m not going to get too hung up on the inconsistency of guys like Dibba and Hensley who are gone in March, but I do hate that the young players, who are getting plenty of opportunity, look lost out there and are seemingly making no progress.

And as an aside, looked like no Bey on the bench again?

Tough loss. I’ve watched all of the supposed ‘bottom-feeder’ MVC teams this year at least once…bad news…they’re all improved.

This team can’t do anything, and they lack heart.

it’s very troubling when a coach can’t pinpoint what the issue is either. That’s a problem.

I have no clue how this guy won before. He might not like the portal, but he better accept it if he’s gonna coach at this level.

Our recruits coming in are solid, but we need honestly 7-8 new players. A total overhaul. In the words of Lee Elia, ‘it’s a (exp) disheartening situation out there.

I don’t know if they can get out of it. I’m not exaggerating. This is a program issue. Not a 2025 issue. There are issues that may affect us beyond this year.

it’s all a problem.

Yeah Bey wasn't on the bench again.  Hopefully everything is okay and it's not a personal issue.  If not, just another open scholarship for next year.  I'm sure there will be plenty.

Careful what you wish for. If Nagy doesn’t really believe in the portal to help him out, this may be just as long as your so called Mullins rebuild. If you start having 6 and 10 win seasons. Your fan base is not going to be satisfied.  So your attendance will be abysmal despite $3 tickets

Just to make you all feel better, we are paying Mullins this year also.

I am checking out for the year after that one. This team is a lock for last place. I’ll continue to bet my bank roll against them, they’re at least good for that. I try to be optimistic but it’s impossible. The pinckneyville jv team would beat this squad and that’s where I’ll spend my winter. Might even have a higher attendance than the arena by the end of the year. Just abysmal but I do wish them the best. Better luck next year. I had a good time at the game today though and I’m going to leave it on a high note.

I am embarrassed, frustrated, depressed, and disgusted with today's outcome. I have supported Coach Nagy, and his hiring, and still trust that he will get the job done. His track record provides this trust and confidence. However, today was a disgrace to the Saluki faithful, and to the rich history and strong tradition of SIU basketball. As an NIL donor, season ticket holder, (due to distance attend 1 game per yr.) SASF Donor, I question why I said yes to renewal. I hope my attitude changes.

It certainly seems that some folks are enjoying this disappointing season thus far, and are making reference that Coach Mullins would not let this type of season to take place. Apparently folks are still upset he was let go. I was one of Coach Mullins biggest supporter, former player, great student, alumni, who bled the maroon. However, it was quite obvious that a change was indeed needed at the end of his tenure. One Saturday appearance at MVC tourney in five years is quite poor. BM was not ready to be a HC, and it showed time and time again vs the top teams, and experienced coaches. Partially on SIU, and partially on BM because he accepted the contract and money. He was compensated well while at SIU. I don't think he gave any money back when his teams fell short year after year. Or perhaps I missed that?

We'll have to wait and see how this Nagy experience turns out. SIU could have hired another young, ambitious, with little experience head coach. Perhaps a young man who could come in and recruit/manage the portal, and win 20 games in year 1. The risk with that scenario is said coach leaving for greener pastures after 2 or 3 years, and you're back to square one. I remember some folks on this site wanting that!

I personally have tried to look for the small things to be positive about this season. Quite frankly, our entire athletic program is down overall. Women's basketball and volleyball are awful. Women's soccer? Yawn. Baseball is mediocre to poor and gains little interest unless we win 48 games. Football had a horrible season, and in the off season has lost some great players. Women's softball is a top 25 program. YAY! Will probably make another NCAA Tournament. Maybe my NIL donations should go there, and a top tier program? T and F, Swimming are nice to have but are non-revenue sports.

Lastly, yours truly is an SIU Alumni, diehard Saluki fan, and Saluki Basketball follower who has been supporting the program for many years. It is THE bread and butter sport at SIU. I'm tired of losing, tired of another season being thrown to the wayside, and no post season yet AGAIN. It is very difficult being a fan right now. I just want to win. All of us do!

GO DAWGS!!!

Did anyone hear RW ask KD if the team watches film together, and that discussion?  Telling.

Is the POG interview posted or saved anywhere?  Like to hear that exchange again.

Rodney definitely was intense/emotional in that interview. I get it and appreciate the deep frustration, but felt a bit sorry for Kennard taking the brunt of it.

@tj-mcflys I support the team and university no matter what.  I expressed my opinion about coach Mullins but that doesn’t matter now.  I am behind the coach we have.  I don’t think we are very good and it may take several years to get better.  Go dawgs!!!!!!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people so unified in their frustration.

we all have different reasons, but we all love SIU hoops and all hope for the best. It’s just quite depressing lol.

Heres to hoping coach gets the right squad for next year.
