I like in the post game interview coach Mullins took the blame and needed to do a better job which is greatly appreciated after the previous coaches also I do love how the fans could be down after the loss but we understand things happen teams get hot and we give credit when it's due also after a full week of uninterrupted practice I am sure an improved effort and team will show up for Drake
the purples shot it incredibly well. 51 points on threes will win you most ballgames. but they also made adjustments. they took away lance driving the lane, which is how we won the first game. you tip your hat and move on.

Evansville is probably not as bad as their recent record. Curtis is a hell of a player. How did they get him?? And piss on Barry Hinson for allowing them to get Frederking out of our backyard.
We are a good team, but we are young and still have some warts. The lack of a true, experienced inside presence is going to kill us this year. Even Evansville outrebounded us. Help is on the way, but for now we are relying on a D2 transfer big wing playing out of position, a true Freshman, and a guy playing on one leg. They are all doing their best.
As someone else mentioned, we also lack any athletic wing defenders. Our team as a whole (outside Jones, Domask, & Banks) is not very athletic. I hate to bag on Harvey, but I believe he should've spent more time in the weight room last year. Great offensive player, but he's become a liability on defense. Trent Brown is vastly improved, but 6'0" wing guards are not ideal at this level (unless they're named Tony Young).
Don't get me wrong, I really like our team. We have a winning attitude, a lot of offensive talent, good coaching, and we never quit. But our weaknesses are going to get exposed once in awhile (like today).

I just scrolled through the game again, painful as it was to do so. I would say that at least half of their made 3s were reasonably well defended. They just hit them.
They also did a good job in making us play their game. I trust that Mullins and the team will learn from this.

Congrats to the purple playing cards. They had the game of a lifetime. We have nothing to be ashamed of. We shot the ball well. I would take it every night. On to Drake.
Obviously we didn't play well tonight but I give all the credit to coach Lik. Aces spread the floor and made that extra pass to get open. We just couldn't recover fast enough. Their 3 point shooting was incredible whether they were open or not. They took away the driving lane on defense. Curtis is a great transfer addition. He is a former 4 star recruit and is going to light up the Valley. Just became eligible lately. I believe the Aces played and shot incredibly well and earned the victory.
I am still hoping for a return to the tough slow floorburn u type man to man. It is still a work in progress.
Better rebounding will help, teams get too many 2nd chance points. But I expect by next year that D will be back.

We will also have some help from new recruit Edube. Hopefully these rebounding woes will be gone by the end of this year.

AND the inside JC stud we signed is out for the year with an injury. Everyone take a deep breath and back away from the ledge.

Although it would be nice to have some inside help, our biggest problem in this game was the lack of perimeter defense. And if we keep giving up open looks like that every game, this won't be the last game we are beat by a high percentage from beyond the arc.
Classic Hinson poor weak side defense - poor positioning - too much sloughing off - too far from your man.... when he is shooting lights out from three you got to stay closer to your guy and not give him that wide open shot.
Also Evansville shot better than they'll likely shoot the rest of the year .. some of those shots were contested but they made them anyway.
Let's go do the same to Drake.
We should have hired Todd over PT years ago. We'd have been dancing for a couple years by now.

Would be interesting to know who the candidates were when they hired PT. I'm pretty sure it's been well known that Dan Muller was one of the candidates. I think they made a run at Weber when Illinois fired him but Kansas State opened.
Mullins was always the guy after PT was fired but I've heard Luke Yaklich and Dane Fife as 2 other candidates for that search, wonder if there were others.

AJ Staton-McCray de-committing hurt us there....
