It's time for basketball season! SIU takes on D3 North Park in an exhibition at the Banterra Center on Tuesday.
In the past, exhibitions haven't been on ESPN+ for viewing so might have to rely on Luke Martin and Saluki Radio for this one if you're not going to the game.
North Park went 11-14 last year and 6-10 in their conference. They lost an exhibition at DePaul 74-63 and an exhibition at SIUe 92-67.
The Vikings are coached by Edwind McGhee in his first year as head coach. McGhee was associate head coach at North Park the past 2 seasons. Previous head coach, Sean Smith, took a job as assistant head coach at South Dakota. Smith was the D3 coach of the year 2 years ago leading the Vikings to a D3 Sweet 16.
Some of the D1 transfers on this team include Davante Robinson, a 6-2 guard that played 2 years at Stetson. Robinson averaged 4.4 points per game at North Park last season. 5-11 Guard Tristian Arneaud spent 2 seasons at Chicago State and averaged 1.2 points per game last year there.
The game is free with parking and seating open. No excuses for local Saluki fans not come out and see the new faster, longer dawgs! Last chance for the coaches to see our guys play against someone other than their teammates prior to a very tough matchup in South Dakota 6 days later. It's time for basketball season! I will be there. Excited for the Nagy era.
Guessing they’ll play most everyone tomorrow but it’ll be great to start getting a sense for the starting 5 and first few guys off the bench.
Also interested in how certain guys are used (Mayo, mostly at PG or 2-guard, Hensley and Massey, more at the 4 or 5, etc.).
And also curious about how Tatum sounds behind the mic.
Time for Saluki hoops, Nagy style!

Tatum?!
Edit: Holy crap, I just watched the video and heard the Tatum news. That is awesome! They need to be publicizing this. I bet a good number of people would come out just for a chance to see Tatum.
Is he back in Carbondale part-time now?
This makes me even more psyched for tomorrow night.

As in Jamaal. He’s going to be part of the ESPN+ crew for home games and sounds like he’ll be part of the radio call tomorrow since there’s no TV for the exhibition. I’m intrigued …

This is awesome. I saw he was doing the radio broadcast tomorrow but didn't know he'd be doing all the home TV games

It appears Massey is still out. Was hoping to see him tomorrow. Hope it's not a long term injury.Guessing they’ll play most everyone tomorrow but it’ll be great to start getting a sense for the starting 5 and first few guys off the bench.

I have watched a LOT of exhibitiion/scrimmage games in the past week. It's a shame SIU couldn't broadcast at least one of them, especially considering this is a NEW team and the fans would love to get a sneak peek. It wasn't that long ago that at least one exhibition game was available for fans to watch every year.

I don't know if it's a coaching staff call to not get anything on film to future opponents or they don't have the ability to do it. I don't mind listening to Luke, Watson, and Tatum for a game though. Hopefully those there can let us know what they saw.
Sheridan Sharp is out with a fever, I think everyone else is going.
Aligbe and Steffe are the first two off the bench
