I don't know the details of Hornecker's timetable to return and I know it would be somewhat unconventional (though not unprecedented) to redshirt in his second year on campus, but I do think it would at least make some sense to consider.

After hardly playing last year, it probably would have been important for Hornecker to have a really strong summer/preseason to find his role in the big-man rotation. As it stands, you have Rupert and Ebube ahead of him and healthier, and I'm guessing it's likely Hensley plays some 5 here and there as well. Hornecker cracking the rotation in any significant way seems like a longshot given all the factors, and you'd hate to see him use two years of eligibility with hardly any playing time.

Again, don't know his timetable to return or whether he'd be open to the idea of redshirting, but seems like something to think about (assuming the other bigs remain healthy/available).

This would make sense to me if there is any doubt about how healthy he is going to be. Last year the redshirt was pulled when we were down big men due to injury. Assuming D’Amico is healthy we would have 4 guys who could rotate at the 4/5 even without Hornecker. If we had to McGee/Stulic look like they could be big enough to play the 4 in a pinch (albeit a bit undersized).

Wasting another year wouldn’t be ideal…Hornecker would obviously have to be onboard.

Great interview with Trent he seems to imply that the offense might not be as stagnant this year with more ball movement which if it happens would be expected without 2 guys dominating the ball

@jabman62 I hope he’s right.  The offense the past couple of years has been limited at best.  I’d like to see Mullins get a couple of bigs on the floor at the same time when situations call for added bulk, rebounding, and or  inside scoring.
