Crrap!
Foster's lack of development/production coming off his redshirt year was perhaps the fatal flaw on last year's team as SIU badly needed more shooting and offensive punch. Still, I was hopeful that with Jones, Banks, Newton and Brown departing and opening up lots of PT in the backcourt, and another offseason of work, they could find a way to get Foster going next year.
Quite bummed about this one as he had a helluva shooting stroke. This staff needs to find a way to make it work with more offensive-minded players.
And we're up to, what, six open rides this spring? They going to find that many useful pieces these next few weeks?
Color me concerned.
This off-season has been really fun so far!
Not totally surprised by this, but a bit disheartened. Really thought he could take off this year. What shooters do we have left on the roster? This staff has their work cut out for them.
Edit: Wouldn't be surprised to see him follow the guy that recruited him over to Green Bay.
So to recap the off-season so far. Lost our 2 best players to portal. Lost 2 valuable bench pieces for next year (Banks/Wonders) and seemed to be swinging and missing on all players we are interested ourselves in portal. Not to mention we lost a top assistant coach with so far no candidates to replace him being named. Lovely
I’m not saying Wonders is going to end up being the player a bunch of us thought he’d be but putting winning fully over development the last two years for two teams that couldn’t sniff an NIT had negative consequences.
And people will whine about the portal but this is where the Portal should be used, Wonders wasn’t used at all here and should get the choice to leave.
Good luck Foster. I hope you get a chance to shine!

It's probably early to panic about the portal as there are still a lot of guys available BUT I don't know that it's realistic that they're going to be able to get SIX good players this spring to fill out the roster ... 3-4 solid signees, maybe, but six (and counting) open rides seems like too many.
Not to mention they need at least a couple serious scorers as X is the leading returning scorer at a whopping 7 ppg.

what shooters did we have on the roster this past year?
(sorry that was a poor attempt at a joke about how disappointing our 3 point percentage was for everyone aside from X)
It's been a rough week or two for the "First You Build the Culture" crowd ...

Don't blame the kid at all - I think it was obvious he wasn't too happy sitting on the bench. Really didn't get a chance in my opinion. He would play a lot at a place like UWGB. Probably misses the snow in the UP! LOL
Won't be surprised if there are more portal transfers.
@siudawgs Hopefully I am wrong. However, I will be very surprised if any player with a halfway decent offensive game will be interested in playing for Mullins.
I don't mean this to come off as everything will be fine cause maybe it will, maybe it won't but I think we are just going to have to accept that this is going to be an every year thing... Kids are leaving schools cause they want more PT or more money... Shoot some seem to be leaving cause they are bored. We got championship level P5 teams losing their best player, championship level mid majors losing their best players, also players leaving teams they played tons for, some leaving programs they never played for. Some leaving more winning programs for less winning programs.... The point is, maybe it will be fine, maybe it won't but kids transferring now is not the same as it used to be, these days you just have to accept the wild west component and hope to build and rebuild a team every year. I think it is great for the kids, coaches will likely get burned out doing this, recruiting is damn hard and recruiting 5 new players every year is going to be exhausting. Training players to leave is going to hurt. I am stunned at some of the names in the portal. Wild stuff.
