I don't mean this to come off as everything will be fine cause maybe it will, maybe it won't but I think we are just going to have to accept that this is going to be an every year thing... Kids are leaving schools cause they want more PT or more money... Shoot some seem to be leaving cause they are bored.  We got championship level P5 teams losing their best player, championship level mid majors losing their best players, also players leaving teams they played tons for, some leaving programs they never played for. Some leaving more winning programs for less winning programs.... The point is, maybe it will be fine, maybe it won't but kids transferring now is not the same as it used to be, these days you just have to accept the wild west component and hope to build and rebuild a team every year. I think it is great for the kids, coaches will likely get burned out doing this, recruiting is damn hard and recruiting 5 new players every year is going to be exhausting.  Training players to leave is going to hurt.  I am stunned at some of the names in the portal. Wild stuff.

There is a lot of truth to this but I'm concerned Bryan Mullins isn't a great fit for this climate - and that's not really intended to be a knock on him, really more of a compliment, as I agree with many that this current landscape is rather obnoxious. But he is someone that really emphasizes building culture (very hard to do with transient rosters) and has old-school sensibilities about redshirting kids, playing upperclassmen over younger guys, etc.

He's going to have to adapt his mindset to a certain extent or it's hard to see this ending well.

Mullins has his work cut out for him.

He’s got to convince an assistant to step into this mess, keep Davis committed, recruit half a roster from the portal, and figure out how to implement a competent offense.

I’m admittedly sort of a pessimist, but I’m afraid this might be the beginning of the end of the Mullins era.

BM never trusted Foster or AJ on the defensive end and that why neither played much. Both should have played more but BM was chasing a valley title on defense. Newton sucked up Foster playing time because of his defensive. We got 5.3 point per game from JN and now a open scholarship.

I’m not very happy right now.

whatever this is. Is not working. No post season since 2008 and counting. Unless they find a whole lot of unknown stud guards in the portal it’s gonna be a long year again and probably the last for Mullins. I hope beyond hope Bryan can pull a rabbit out of his ass butttttttttt

Figured this one would’ve happened on March 6.

Curious to see how he turns out for another program.

On to the next one.

Supporter of the Fab 4: Scottie Ebube, Foster Wonders, AJ Ferguson & Cade Hornecker.

They’re the ones that can get us where we haven’t been in 15 years.

I am as positive as they come but I’m finding it difficult to be excited about the direction of the program. I’d say if we don’t get a top 5/6 finish next season then it’s more than time to move on. And it looks like right now we won’t even be close to that.

I had Foster penciled in for starting 2G next season.  WTF?  We have no guards left on our roster (other than X).

I couldn’t agree more, Bryan may not be the best in the landscape… Hopefully he loves SIU enough to adapt but I can see him being stubborn and saying if I can’t make it in this climate with my style then so be it… and I agree I find it to be a compliment to him, shady losers who aren’t truthful with kids  are going to win out in this era

It seems whether you are a Mullins fan or don't always agree with his personnel decisions there is one thing we can hopefully agree to in this culture it is going to be extremely difficult to keep continuity and not have a roster turnover which leads to a problem in recruiting in what I mean is you have to be perfect on who you bring in and as we all know recruiting is an inexact science so good luck in the future without being disappointed in our yearly record and this extremely disappointing as it seemed the crowds were growing and such a big presence at the valley tourney

yep, building a team will be doable… building a sustained winning program will be almost impossible… I’m sure we will have our years but ultimately we will be doing this March-May every year. I’m not going to stress, just going to hope we get some really good players in… and hey, whether we do or not guess what happens against next March-May…

Not every kid wants to bounce around to different schools. Domask and Lance were here for 4 years. We will always have some kids like that, and we will have to do the portal lottery every year probably too.
