SIU loses 77-72, score is not showing how bad this was

Gritty 2nd half effort. Hopefully, lessons learned.

What this team could be if they had just one guard like the two Drake has that can rise up and bury contested 30 footers with semi-regularity.

There's talent, but they're mentally far, far away from where they need to be to compete night in and night out. That and their inconsistencies from 3 and the free throw line will be what keeps them out of any serious contention.

--Insert something witty here--

Wow - what a bunch of fair weather couch coaches! Mullins was a poor offensive coach and played a boring brand of basketball. Also made poor personnel decisions that cost us a few games. Lost out on most good recruits. I wish him well but good riddance.

Nagy had 1 1/2 months to recruit 10 players and a new coaching staff. He's done a great job. Now he's lost his best offensive player and today, the team gave a poor effort in that 1st half. Nobody remembers the talented Weber team that got destroyed by Creighton in the MVC tournament? It happens.

We are not going to win the MVC, but Mullins never did with two all-conference Big 10 players, one of which was first team and played on an Elite 8 team and the other a starter on a team that made it to the National Championship!

I think this team will be decent later in the season, but it's year 1. Crazy expectations! I wish anybody that pulls their contributions based on a single half of basketball a flea infestation in their coaching couch!

Tale of 2 halves. Didn't come to play in the first half and weren't ready for their pressure, poor effort. Didn't give up and played a great second half with great effort for an obviously exhausted team. Wasn't enough after digging a monumental hole. We probably beat EKU 7 out of 10 times, especially if we have a healthy Aligbe. Dibba with a career 2nd half. We need to spread the floor and let guys like Dibba, Davis, Sykes, etc. drive to the basket. That is probably our best offense.

I highly doubt we have Aligbe for Bradley. A bad ankle sprain can be 4+ weeks. Hope it's less. We need his size and athleticism against the Braves. Hensley will give up too many points to Bradley when playing the 5. Also, Massey and Moreno don't bring much offense to the 5 spot.

However, if we lose to the Florida School for the Criminally Insane tomorrow, I'm demanding my $25 contribution back!

This tournament has been a disaster. Who's bright idea was it to participate in this tourney with essentially a brand new team?!😩

???

We lost to Eastern Kentucky today and play a D2 team tomorrow.

Breath in, Breath out.  People need to settle down and put in perspective where we are at and who we are at this point.  Rebuild will take time.  Anyone who thought that we would compete first year with a new coach and 10 new players is how shall I say this, a bit optimistic?!  Losing EE only makes this more obvious.  Go Dawgs!

To be fair the game was at 11 am, pretty early and a lot of folks probably aren't in a decent mood for the day yet.  I am still getting there and I get up early.  I got no clue on this team til conference play gets going.  Looking forward to actually being able to watch games again since this was on whatever network

I tend to agree more with those saying take a breath than those saying they’re done or it was a bad hire, etc.

That said, today was 100 percent unacceptable and I would have liked to hear more accountability from Nagy on his radio interview. And yes, a quicker timeout when it was immediately apparent they were sleepwalking against an amped-up opponent.

This roster has deficiencies but no excuse to get humiliated like they were in the first 20 minutes.

I never expected we could be looking at a 20-loss team this year...  but I didn't expect such a sad showing against Eastern Kentucky... ouch!

I'm still giving Nagy three years to show us something, like like I did with Mullins, but do we have to go through this kind of start?  Elliott's loss is gonna prove far bigger if we keep having first halves like the one we just witnessed against Eastern Kentucky.

Ugh, how many days til softball season?

  • @siudawgs Did you already block out LA tech yesterday? 😂.  Plus coming off the heels of the Florida beat down it just wasn't good scheduling IMO.

There’s a lot not to like at the moment but I don’t know that lamenting that the MTE was too tough is the thing to focus on. It’s a VERY pedestrian field.

I get your point about it coming off the Florida game, and maybe there’s something to that, but I’m never one to advocate for soft schedules, and with Elliott in the mix, many thought this roster had the makings of an upper-half MVC team.

This season isn't lost. It's always been about the conference, we weren't going to get an ncaa at large. Those don't go out to the MVC anymore, see the 2024 Indiana State. We had 1 terrible half in this tourney and should have beaten a really good La Tech team. Sure we have definitely underperformed and it's very disappointing to date. However, this is virtually a brand new team and a brand new coaching staff. I like the tough schedule to harden them up for conference season, which is all that matters in the long run this season. Injuries haven't helped. We need to get Aligbe back as his upside is substantial. We have some talent and can compete. We just need to figure out who we are and play hard for 40 minutes every night.

Bradley at home will be by far the biggest game of the year to date. I hope folks turn out for it.
