I hope I am never around a coach “coasting” at the end of his career. I have never met one or been around one who did. In my opinion, coaches have too much pride and professionalism, not to mention ego, to do this.
I also agree that Coach Nagy showed great class in not pursuing any of his former players to come with him. That could have made for a truly ugly situation. He did bring his best recruit with him and I am sure there were some there not happy about that.
Obviously this has not been the season any of us wanted. Watching Coach Nagy, it has not been easy on him either. You can see the frustration in his expressions and actions. I’ll admit to being frustrated in the stands as well.
There are some things definitely needing improvement. Blaming the coach is not always the answer. These are 20+ year olds, not sixth graders. There are mistakes made that they should know better, both defensively and offensively. I can guarantee they have been told and are being told by the coaches.
My two cents worth on possible ideas. With the length we have, maybe play an odd-front zone like a 1-3-1. I also feel Moreno should be given a chance. I have watched him in his little playing time he has been given, and I have seen him play ball screens better than our other bigs. He deserves a chance especially with the way our bigs played Saturday.
I was thinking the same thing during the HP game. With our length and athleticism, why not run a 2-3 or 1-3-1 trapping zone? It can't be any worse than what we're watching now with man to man.

High Point looked like a really good team, hopefully siu can look something like that in the near future. As disappointed as most of us will be this season, it's alot to ask of a 1st season coach. Siu has been bad for awhile, and there was no reason for me to believe they would have been better this season with a 6th year staff. In comparison SLU is terrible this year with a supposedly good coach and alot more money. Theve played a weaker schedule also, siu schedule this year is as tough as I can remember. No way last staff plays that hard of a schedule in my opinion. I do believe with the portal rules success can be faster and has worked for some schools, unfortunately it did not come together for siu, especially with EE injury. What would last years team been with XJ out after 5 games? I will say I believe this team can be better than they are showing right now
Looking around at the players that left from last year, I'm not sure I have any regrets about any of them. Rupert has been hurt, Ebube hasn't gotten much run, D'Amico is shooting 36% at DePaul. Ferguson is probably the one I miss the most but he's a 2nd or 3rd option on a mediocre Murray State team that's underachieving. I'd give the edge to continuity but I can't imagine things would be too much different.

The one that surprises me a bit is Trey Miller. He's averaging 10 points and 4 assists at Texas-Rio Grande Valley after being a bust for SIU last season. Texas-Rio Grande Valley is 8-4 against a decent schedule.

Of their 8 wins, 2 came against bible schools who aren't part of the NCAA and another was against an NAIA school. If you consider that decent that is disgusting.

Kindly dispense with your personal attacks and look at both sides of the story here. They have played Creighton and Nebraska and took Wisconsin to overtime. That makes the schedule decent in my book. End of conversation.

Biggest weirdo on this site, makes it miserable for others. Please go outside and touch grass
Those Bible schools are tough. Just ask Bradley (Judson) and Murray (Bethel)!
Pharmacy Schools are close to as tough - just ask Indiana State.

Maybe we can schedule the Palmer College of Chiropractic. I'm sure that would be a back-breaker.
@ajcsaluki Those guys always rub me the wrong way. 🤣

They're also really good at making halftime adjustments.
