If Reis knows which way the wind is blowing re: Domask and Jones, he didn't let on here.

Seems like Xavier Johnson has a good shot at being back at the very least

I'd be surprised if X isn't back. He wasn't super consistent but in general he seemed to get better after a shaky start to the season. He was a big part of the comeback against Mo State on Friday in St. Louis.

The question is will he be the team's leading returning scorer at 7 ppg. 😬

Do you or anyone else know if Marcus has even a small NIL thingy at SIU where gets a little bit of money?

He did do a radio ad for Shawnee Health with Lance Jones promoting COVID vaccination, so I assume he got some $$$ from that.

I wish Domask and Jones a fond farewell.  They will be hard to replace.

Im ready for a fresh look, whether SIU struggles another 17 or 18 years. Haha

It took Rich 4 years, and Weber 3 years  to turn it around. I’m willing to wait another 2 years.  After that…

Jones’ dad made it sound like they were real good friends.  Any chance Marcus and Lance come back to SIU together?  Probably not, but these next few weeks will be interesting.

  • Personally I would come  back and play for the simple reason I have my whole life to work only one more season to play ball at a high level especially knowing I won't make the pros

Not true. Marcus and Lance should make 6 figures in Europe and their team typically pays their taxes. The absolute lowest anyone in Europe makes is $60k and that's the very lowest paid players in Greece. If I had to guess Marcus would make maybe in the $150k - $200k range 1st year and Lance maybe in $100k - $150k range. That money would be tax free and would go up in subsequent years, depending upon performance. If they were to make it to the prestigious EuroLeague they would make a minimum of $400k. Players make substantially more overall in Europe than in the US G league. G League guys are playing in G League for the dream of parlaying it into an NBA opportunity and not for the money. Players do however make less in Asia and the middle east, so Europe would be the preferred destination.

They'll make good bucks. Randall Falker played in Europe for years - might still be playing!

He better come back. Oklahoma St looks crazy athletic on TV now vs Texas.

Might check on those tax facts of European salaries. Nothing in life is tax free.  Americans are required to report any income no matter where it’s made. If someone pays your taxes that would be seen as additional income and then that amount would also be taxed.

The longer we don’t hear news on Domask and Jones, the less likely it feels they are coming back. Reis said he thought we would know more by next week when the portal opens, I hope they have their minds made up by then. No hard feelings if they leave, but the coaching staff would have some MAJOR holes to fill and the sooner they get to work on that the better.

I've discussed this with another old Saluki friend and we both agree. Domask is a Saluki through and through and has done incredibly good things for the program. He's stated he wants to keep on playing and even mentioned Europe. We both feel that we'll support any decision he makes. That's just how much he's done for Southern. Best of luck to him.

Marcus is very much about winning/team goals, so I think it would be more likely that he would return if he felt good about Southern's chances to break through/make the NCAA tournament next year. I think it would be very meaningful for him to lead the team all the way back, and that might be the most powerful "pro" in the pro-con column re: returning next year.

I wonder what his thoughts are on that/what kind of conversations he's had with Mullins along those lines.

Paraphrasing what BM often says, "Don't worry about things you can't control."

That is the present situation. If MD and LJ come back, great. If not, you appreciate and admire their significant body of work as true Salukis. Hopefully no others depart, but they might.

In any case you move on and play with the hand you're dealt.

March on triumphantly!
