Constructive criticism is OK.
I want BMull to succeed and want him to have every possible opportunity to do so, but clearly something is off on rotations and preparation here.
He’s proving to be a very stubborn coach, both in terms of rotations and his refusal to adjust the coaching staff when there clearly is a need for new ideas on offense.
Mullins was the hire I’d hoped for. I would never have dared to dream 4 years later that I’d be so frustrated by his stubbornness. He’s making barbecue Barry look like a yoga master class in basketball coaching flexibility.
Whatever, it’s on him to adjust an change. If he doesn’t, he’ll be in for a very rude awakening when he’s suddenly forced to look for his next coaching gig.
--Insert something witty here--
Here are some rotations I would like to see:
- XJ
- Lance
- Wonders
- Marcus
- Rupert
- Lance
- Marcus
- Wonders
- Rupert
- Cade
Is this a team with senior leadership ?
Is this BM's 4th year ?
Is this a team built around defense ?
How do we end up with a guard defending a big man under the basket so much ?
Where is Cade Hornecker ?
Anyone that believes that this SIU team is going to be in contention for a conference championship is drinking way too much maroon liquid.
I’m just glad I’m not the only one who sees it. Unfortunately, the only one who doesn’t see it is the coach.
+1 on those lineups.
Another rotation that would be interesting with 2x height and 2x the 3 point shooting:
- Marcus (point forward)
- Wonders
- Brown
- Rupert
- Cade
I’m not giving up on this team. I just realize there have to be some changes made. I hope the people who react at the board and say “they’re being too negative” realize this is out of love and not out of negativity.

These are some valid questions.
Here’s the thing: there is more than enough talent to win this conference on this roster.
It just needs to be utilized much better.
I dont know why they don't shift away from the mediocre motion they play. With players like Hornecker and Rupert they could run a very good high post offense with set plays.
Schertz had a nice interview with Rodney Watson in which he stressed limiting player minutes to under 30 minutes per game. He said likes to use his bench depth to wear other teams down. Seems like we have the bench depth to do the same and give Jones and Domask a little more rest.

I suspect these questions will be asked of this staff.

This team ends up with a guard defending a big man INTENTIONALLY as they were playing to "switch". The announcers were lamenting the fact that Indiana St continued to go down low to Avilla specifically due to that.

150% right on 6 foot nothing guarding the 5 man. thats not coaching, it's suicide.
what now?
thank god we let murrey in the league. it will be so much fun to get drummed at home by yet another startup team. bravo to saluki fans who backing that.
Craving a McBride Special!

Motion needs a dribble drive component to work in modern college basketball offense.
Also … while the frustration with not playing bigs is justified, college hoops is largely about guardplay. Southern’s guardplay, especially at PG, has not been near good enough.
Johnson has been wildly inconsistent and was brutal in the first half. Jones is not making much of a case for those who were offended by him not being all-conference last year. Banks has been … not good.
On the wing, Brown and Newton don’t score enough and Wonders is only now getting his chance.
That’s not going to get you anywhere near the postseason.

The issue isn’t letting Murray in … it’s on Southern to up its game. How about rising to a challenge instead of accepting mediocrity?
