How did that +/- thing go for D'amico tonight?
He only played 13 minutes, so, don't think this is on him. This is on Mullins and his refusal to play a big man. Hornecker and Rupert are rotting on the bench while we get dominated inside. How he can't see that is beyond me. It is so obvious to literally everyone else. Probably made Mullins mad that Watson talked about how much of an impact hornecker had on the game when he came in in st louis, so he just flat out refused to play him tonight.
Is this a team with senior leadership ?
Is this BM's 4th year ?
Is this a team built around defense ?
How do we end up with a guard defending a big man under the basket so much ?
Where is Cade Hornecker ?
Anyone that believes that this SIU team is going to be in contention for a conference championship is drinking way too much maroon liquid.
150% right on 6 foot nothing guarding the 5 man. thats not coaching, it's suicide.
what now?
thank god we let murrey in the league. it will be so much fun to get drummed at home by yet another startup team. bravo to saluki fans who backing that.
SIU has to realize it isn’t the only game in town at some point… right?
Guys withering under big game pressure again.
this team should finish about 3 games over 500. Slightly over 500 in conference.
Which should be WILDLY successful to some dopes here.
Enjoy the longest stretch of ineptitude in SIU basketball history!15 years of no postseason appearances! Not a longer stretch in SIU history!
We overreacting just a bit?
No, he's not.

This team ends up with a guard defending a big man INTENTIONALLY as they were playing to "switch". The announcers were lamenting the fact that Indiana St continued to go down low to Avilla specifically due to that.
Funny thing is, after seeing Avila now, I’ll confidently say I’d rather have Hornecker. I think Cade has more upside. If those two were swapped, I wonder what Cade’s role would look like on the Sycs?
Mullins is irritating.

We have more talent than a lot of people on this board realize. That’s the main disconnect.
One thing to remember is SIU is missing 2 big guys. Things could look a whole lot different when those two return.
just sayin

The issue isn’t letting Murray in … it’s on Southern to up its game. How about rising to a challenge instead of accepting mediocrity?
This. If Murray comes in and pommels SIU on top of being passed up by former conference doormats Drake and Indiana St, then SIU deserves everything that scenario entails.
i seriously can’t believe this is reality now..

During the game:
Rodney Watson: "Indiana State has literally outscored us in the paint 2-to-1. Or 32-16 to be exact. You have to have a big man in there."
Mike Reis: "Wow, a two-bounce pass to Domask."
And some gems from Bryan's pre-game show:
Mullins: "I think D'Amico could be our next Domask." "He can play and guard 1-through-5."
Mullins: "No, I don't think we need to change our offense at all."
In an attempt to not be too negative for the apologists on here, I will say nothing and allow those quotes to speak for themselves.

We still should have won this game.

You seem to think they will get in the game and play. I have seen no evidence yet that they will. Mullins won't play the other bigs, Rupert and Hornecker both change the game when they are in there, but he refuses to play them. We went on the run and took the lead with Rupert in, then he benches him so that we can lose. Its mind blowing that Mullins can't see it.
I must disagree with some previous posters. This team does not have the talent to win the conference. I lay blame at the feet of the coaching staff. Not so much for decisions made during the game but, for the inability to bring in quality recruits.
Year 4 and who are the players this team counts on for points ? Domask, not recruited by BM, fell to us when NK fired their coach.
Jones, a BH recruit.
Johnson, 5th year transfer.
Newton, same as above.
Wonders, may turn out to be a player.
D'Amico, not a scorer, bench player on most teams.
Brown, ?????
Banks, ?????
Ferguson, ????
Hornecker, jury is still out, should have redshirted.
Rupert, may turn out to be a player.
Mulia, not an offensive player by any stretch of the imagination.
Ebube, who knows.
Not much of a track record.
Losing out on a player like Avilla is another example.
My guess is that it may not be so much a problem with the coaching staff. More so, a problem with recruiting to a town and a University. I base this on nothing more than my own opinion.

Muila will come in and play 20 minutes a night and Ebube will be glued to the bench. People forget Ebube played just 8 minutes when he was healthy in the one game he played. The Salukis won that game in the first 10 minutes.
I must admit that I am now wavering somewhat on BM. Usually try to stay positive, but many changes need to take place. An opportunity to start 2-0 in the MVC, playing at home after six road games, and once again a poor start dooms this team. Even more depressing is seeing Indiana State go to 9-1 in year two, granted under a coach who was successful at the DII Level. Illinois State won again tonight, and is continuing to improve each game. Pedon seems like a great hire from afar. Sadly, but honestly, I just don't see improvement being made from the coaching staff. A team shows improvement, when the coaching and decision making improves. Hate to say this but we could lose Saturday to a team who has had some nice wins thus far this season. I would beg the question, "If we lose, what happens then?"
I really really want Mullins to succeed. But I was more than a little disappointed tonight. How can everyone else see that Rupert needed to be in that game at the end and I don't mean the last 9 seconds. He said ISU blue was playing 5 guards so we had to also. ???? That might me ok if their "guards" weren't bigger than our guards and could drive to the paint time after time. He has to play Rupert more and use Cade to rest him. Rupert and Wonders should start and play a lot. If Brian doesn't adjust his thinking on this it will be a long year.
