Same. But, Mullins is going to have to find more minutes for some of these guys - at least the ones he really wants to keep going forward - or common sense says that will be more of a possibility. You can't play 20-plus minutes of smallball with four bigs on the roster and expect there isn't going to be some fallout.

Me too. I especially value Hornecker. He’s going to be a stud for someone. I hope for us. But if he’s not going to play because being over 6’8 gets you on the bench, I don’t see incentive for him to stay. I feel bad for the guy. He’s simply too good to be wasting on the bench.
I don't think any of us want them to transfer, but they would be stupid to stay here unless Mullins learns how to play one of them once in a while.I value all of our bigs and I do not want any of them to transfer.
I communicated to someone on the coaching staff this should be our starting five:
PG Johnson
#2 Jones
#3 Domask
#4 Rupert
#5 Hornecker
No response.
From the Alcorn State game preview:
"Clarence Rupert is shooting 69.4 percent (25-36) -- the best of any Saluki with more than 10 attempts."
Is there a chance the lad is in over his head, particularly with his present assistants?
I was wondering this a lot during this game. Personally I have no feel for the back up coaches for BM but are we lacking some wisdom and maturity on the coaching bench. I am in BM'S camp> I want him to be successful.

I don't know if Hornecker should be starting (he hasn't looked amazing so far, which is to be expected given bigs take longer to develop and he's still a Freshman) but he should be getting minutes.
Now with Ebube and Muila coming back in the next few weeks, if Hornecker wasn't getting any time before, how is he possibly going to get run now? I was all for burning his redshirt but now you burned it, you can't possibly justify not playing him now.

I like this lineup a lot. Rupert has the quickness to cover smaller 4's on defense and Cade has the shooting ability to stretch at the 5, which could help allow Rupert room to work on the offensive interior. I'd also feel pretty confident you could dump the ball into Hornecker and let him go to work with his back to the hoop.
That's a big, physical combo and I'd seriously doubt they'd get trashed in the paint.
Another totally infuriating thought on Wednesday was by sitting Rupert, Mullins was essentially saying that a guy who had a large hand in shutting down some of the top post talent in the country on his way to an elite eight last year couldn't guard a freshman Avila, who we passed over to bring in Hornecker, who wasn't even allowed to sniff the floor at all while we were torched at the rim.. WHAT??!!

Oh my . . .
What a perfect summation of the current nutso situation.

I now live less than two miles from the Arena. I am not going to this game. Partly because I'm a tiny bit under the weather, but mostly because I have no interest in watching the "five guard offense."
This is crazy: I would even go to games when I was home during the freaking tail end of the Lowery era and the Hinson era.
And I live here now (as of last year), and I find myself . . . annoyed.
Show me tonight, BM, why I shouldn't be annoyed. Please.

Mullins either effed up by removing the red shirt from Hornecker or he's effing up by not playing him. Terrible.
My sincere hope it's that it is all part of some master plan to bring Hornecker (and Wonders) along slowly, and he has been waiting for this point in the schedule to get them playing time.
Even if that is so, it does not explain the lack of playing time for Rupert.

I almost think Mullins as a coach benefitted more from having less depth in his first season. When Cook got hurt, his rotations had to tighten up and it allowed Lance Jones to get a bunch of minutes as a Freshman and develop into the player he is now. There's no way Lance would be getting those minutes if he was a Freshman this season. Same thing with Domask really.

If you look back a bit deeper, Domask was quite polished for a freshmen and deserved, and would have gotten, playing time in the current environment.
