My son, who flies Boeing 777s as an international pilot laid that on me one day. He is big on checklists!

I know that when hiring regular jobs on campus they start at the beginning of a pay period. A pay period began 4/16. I don't know if that is the case for these kind of jobs. Again I don't know anything.

Coaches are AP, so their pay period is the entire month 1-31(or however many days).  I'm hoping to chalk up this delay to the normal highly efficient state goverment-powerhouse employees. 🤣

That's right. I typed before I thought. 🙂

It's weird people are so excited about Kennedy. He was a senior who only started 13 games and averaged 7 pts for a 10-21 Loyola.

If this is the player you get excited about next season is going to be a long season.

we all remember how good he was for Loyola… he’s a perfect fit, he can play. My eyes told me he could a few years ago. Purdue wasn’t in on him for no reason. Same with Bradley and Indiana State.

It's just one piece. He would be good role player and he still has MVC hardware hanging on his wall.  He will contribute if he is healthy (and signs with us). I can't remember, but I don't think any of our returning players can say the same.

Not worried about Howard was told last week it was done, by several people in the AD.  I am more worried about players and getting ones that aren't role players.  While Kennedy would be a good role player he has NEVER averaged more than 8 ppg a game. He has played 4 years of college ball already. Stats don't usually lie. Of the three seniors that could return sorry but not excited about it being Trent Brown. This team has lost 4 to the portal and has yet to sign ANYONE this spring.  Anyone really not concerned about that?

@mdogs1 Totally agree with you here. I don't see Kennedy as a difference maker. The clock is ticking. The portal is shrinking. Howard better hit the ground running. 😆

Of course I'm concerned with this, that's why I want this hire announced as soon as possible.  Howard will get SIU in the door on some portal targets we never would have been in on before.

I also think Kennedy would be a better addition than you think.  He's ranked in the top 100 in EvanMiya's portal players (I think he's a bit overvalued though) and SIU is really lacking Senior leadership right now.  Plus Mullins has familiarity with him by recruiting him when he was at Loyola.

You'd have to be stoned or the ultimate optimist not to at least be somewhat concerned. It's the evening of April 18, there are five open scholarships and no returnees who averaged more than 7 ppg.

However, to your point about Kennedy ... guess what, if he averaged 15 ppg at Loyola, first off he probably wouldn't be transferring, but if he was, Southern would have very little chance to get him. That's reality. Show me all the MVC transfer portal signings of players who were major scorers at leagues that are as good or better than the Valley. Maybe Howard's arrival eventually gets Southern in on more sought-after transfers ... I sure hope so, but if he does, he'll be very tough to retain.

Considering how ultra-competitive it is to get the kind of difference-makers you're looking for out of the portal, IMO, the best chance for the SIUs of the world to have stars is to sign good high school players, develop them and pray you can retain them (see Domask). Easier to get them when they're already here, if that makes some sense (excuse the Yogi Berra-sm). That's why Wonders fizzling was a big disappointment to me and why it's very important that kids like Ebube, Hornecker and Davis develop into big-time performers.

I am neither an optimist, nor stoned.  The man is already at work. You are getting worked up over a press release. Don't.

Hello! First time poster, semi new lurker as well.

It is a little concerning that there has been no official announcement given that it has been unofficially confirmed last week. The only thing I can think of is that they are also delaying announcing a few portal transfers that Howard played a part in as well. May be wishful thinking.
