Here are some questions that I am interested in.
1. We added 2 great passers in Johnson and Rupert, but no great scorers (that we know of). Can this impact the scoring problem? Does it have a major impact in the ability to get great looks from guys such as Brown, Wonders, Newton, Jones, etc... I think it will, and it will make those guys look like better players.
2. How good are the freshman? Hornecker had the best offers of any player we've seen in the Mullins era except possibly Domask. How good is he right now? Where does he compare to Edube (Yes, I know, they probably have very different skill sets)? Is Wonders ready to contribute?
3. If healthy, can Domask compete for player of the year? I know we need to win more to have players in that conversation, but I think we can be up there with the best teams.
Regarding #2, Hornecker is quite different from Ebube in that he is taller, but slender. Ebube is most likely the biggest player we have ever had, and that includes Roland Roberts. Hornecker has a jump shot out to 3 point land. Hornecker is more of a finesse player than what I think we will see in Ebube. I can see Ebube backing guys into the paint and just dunking over them, or getting doubled and kicking the ball out. Hornecker is also a good passer.
Rolan Roberts was built like a brick shithouse but he was generously listed at 6’6”. He couldn’t have been more than 6’5”.
The biggest hoss I can remember having was Eugene Teague. He was a monster.
I had forgotten about Teague, pretty easy to forget some of ClLo’s guys though, Ebube is actually an inch taller and in my opinion, more athletic. He has gotten down to 265lbs. since arriving in campus last year.

Teague was darn good with a BB gun. Otherwise forgettable. 6'8" sideways!
Hornecker and Ebube will wipe that memory away!

Teague's SIU career may have been forgettable, but he went on to average 11/8 in the Big East for Seton Hall.
Pretty sure we could have used a guy like that!

Might have cut down on the campus squirrels too! LOL
It was annoying and puzzling--to me anyway--how Teague was laughed off by pretty much this entire board (except for me and a very few others) after the BB gun incident. I guess there was some weird need to believe that CLO couldn't do a single thing right, so therefore Teague was a joke. I even remember several venerable members of the board at the time scoffing about him ever getting off the bench at Seton Hall. Haha.
Weird. He was a good player. If he had gotten his $hit together while here and stuck around for four years, this board would still be wishing for another one of him.

Yup. I was one of the few that hated to see him go. When he got playing time as a true freshman I could see his potential. I got some good backlash for saying he had great feet and soft hands for a guy his size.
He was one of a handful of talented players I filed away as: Lowery's got them here but couldn't keep 'em bunch, which further fueled my diminishing support of his leadership.

My feelings exactly. Teague was a legit big man. Lowery was not a legit head coach.
Here's one other potential question for the 22-23 Salukis: 3-point shooting. Very possible/likely that your three starting guards are Johnson, Jones and Newton. Johnson and Newton have played a combined seven years of college basketball, and the BEST season 3-point shooting percentage for either of them was 34 percent for Johnson last year. So Jones is probably the best shooter of that trio, and he can be quite streaky.
Banks also has scuffled from beyond the arc, but hopefully guys like Wonders and Brown can provide some perimeter shooting off the bench. And they need to get Domask more looks from 3.

FWIW, Wonders can hit from way beyond the arc. If Trent Brown is healthy and will shoot, he can shoot also. I don't know about Wonder's defense, but I do know about Trents.

We are going to be a much different looking team next year. Look for us to push the tempo much more on offense. We may take and make less 3's, but that will in part be due to us scoring more in transition. We also now have more players that can get their own shots, get to the rim, etc. We have some pretty good rebounding guards. I expect our guards to rebound and push the ball when the opportunity presents itself.

This makes sense and I very much hope it's the case - no reason to play grind-it-out for 40 minutes with this personnel. And I'd add that it seems like Southern's bigs might be equipped to run the floor pretty decently, too.

Yes, and we have a ton of players able to lead a break. Johnson, Jones, Newton and Banks can all lead a break. Also, even some of our forwards have good handles and are able to push the ball including Domask and D'Amico. Regarding, our big's running the floor, Rupert is much more mobile and athletic than Filewich and Muila runs the floor well. Ebube should also be able to run the floor for a big with his freak athleticism.
I may be wrong, but it seemed to me that we often passed up good shots looking for better ones, then ended up taking wild, hurry up time clock beaters.
