If Hornecker indeed does not redshirt, I'll guarantee we will see him make some appearances at the 4 in certain situations. Would he be tasked with guarding Clay? No, Mullins wouldn't put him in that position, but like he hinted at in the interview, this team is capable of many different lineup looks.

SIU will be able to counter whatever other teams throw at them, as well as picking and choosing where they might try to impose their will (going big, small, etc.), so if a redshirt doesn't happen, it'll be hard getting him enough minutes to develop strictly playing within the quartet at the 5, imo.

Some great comments above.  I agree.  If Hornecker doesn't redshirt, we will indeed see some line-ups with two big men on the floor at the same time.

That would be an interesting look, and quite a departure from the latter part of last season, when it appeared that Mullins preferred to play with 0 big men on the floor.

Here's hoping Hornecker is good enough as a freshman to turn this hypothetical into a reality. I'm a bit skeptical he'll force the coaches' hand on this right off the bat, but we'll see. Agree with others that there probably won't be much PT for him at the 5 with Ebube, Rupert and, to a lesser extent, Muila all in the mix.
