Happy for Lance. It’s a good fit. Gave everything he had for 4 years to SIU. Deserve a chance to play on the big stage.

Very interesting. If he plays like he did last year and at times in previous years, I don’t think he’ll see a ton of time there. But, maybe his shooting and shot selection improve as a super senior and in a different scheme. He’s certainly athletic and tough enough. Good luck to him.

He'll be a defensive substitution for them at PG and more likely at SG. Regardless, happy for him to continue and have a chance for postseason success.

Lance will do well at Purdue.  Their guard play hurt them late in the season and in the tourney.

I read some where earlier that Painter was looking for someone like Lance because he said guard play against smaller and quicker guards in the dance the last two years was an Achilles heel so I believe Lance will fill a big need for them and he will get significant playing time Lance is exactly what they need

Lance will play a lot at Purdue - exactly what they need - a quick, tough guard who can play D and pass and drive it. Painter won't let him gun the 3 like he did here because, unlike SIU, Purdue will have a lot of other scoring options and LJ won't need to try to win it by himself. (let's face it, Lance's 2nd half effort won a lot of games for us we would have lost otherwise)

My son-in-law, big-time Purdue alum/fan, is excited about it.

@mr_woogers i can see his defense being consistent, i can also see him consistently turning the ball over in a much tougher conference and continuing to take off a courtside spectator's head on occasion with those "passes"

I'm really amazed at how many (almost said idiots) people on here don't have much respect for Lance's game. No question his 3pt shooting was not good this year and was a bit out of control, but his defense, his incredible drives to the basket, his sometimes just great passes, his quickness, his league leading steals, blah blah blah will translate well to the Big 10 or any other league. By far the most impressive (and almost the only) Larry Birdesque passes made on this team were made by Lance. I say this because I watched every minute of every game and have for years. He'll be just fine at Purdue where he won't have to be the savior because they have much more talent overall. No he won't play 35 minutes a game, because he won't need to on a team with more talent. Lance played against a lot of future Big 10 players in HS and was a 1st team All-Stater in Illinois, which as you may know, produces a lot of great players. He'll help Purdue - Painter wouldn't have offered if he didn't think so. I also think MP, a very good, experienced coach, will help improve his game.

Just ask yourself what SIU's record would have been the last few years without Lance Jones. If BM could grab a portal player as good as Lance (even with his faults), I would be overjoyed.

Domask had significantly more turnovers than Lance this year. Per minute of play, Lance had fewer turnovers than Marcus and XJ.

Lance was good, not great last year.  He shot SIU out of several games and the Bradley home game stands out as his worst game at SIU (granted there might have been personal things he was dealing with there).

I'm interested to see how he does at Purdue because I think Painter is going to get a lot out of him and coach him a lot better than he's been coached at SIU.  He'll likely come off the bench and play in spurts.  Purdue has really needed a quicker, smaller guard like him against teams like FDU and North Texas in the Tournament the last few years.

Lance will do well at Purdue.  His defense/quickness is elite, and with a coach who has a clue, he will excel.

He clearly has no business running down the court and pulling up for a quick 3s repeatedly.  His skills should have been used so much better here.

I believe the same about Domask. It was a struggle to watch him struggle trying to do EVERYTHING this season.

I won’t attend a single game this upcoming season if Ebube leaves.  And unless Ebube feels like he owes something to the Mullins father or Bryan himself, why would he stay?

Ugh. What a mess.

So, Jones is off to Purdue and Domask is being courted by Illinois and Wisconsin.

I have to wonder what it says for this coaching staff to have had two B1G contender-caliber guys on the roster for 4 years and not sniff the postseason.

It wasn’t just the Bradley home game - in many of SIU’s biggest games, Lance really struggled. Southern didn’t get to 60 in any of the five games against Drake or Bradley and Lance’s box scores in those games weren’t pretty. And TBH, he was a huge reason Southern dug a major hole in the quarterfinal game against Mo State and needed a major rally to avoid what would have been a disastrous one-and-done in St. Louis.

I do think he can be effective in a different role at Purdue for the reasons that have been mentioned, and he had many memorable games and moments at Southern. And he’s a very likable kid who I will continue to pull for. But there’s a reason he was lucky to be third team all-MVC in a down year for the league this year.

Lucky to make 3rd team? That is complete bullshit! 11th in FT shooting, 12th in scoring, 1st in steals and one of the best defenders in the MVC. Easily one of the best players in the MVC.

You're cherry picking to play the blame game. A loss is never the result of a single player, unless you want to say (as you are) that Lance was responsible for the losses because he didn't play great. I could just as easily blame our two losses to Drake on Marcus.

At Drake, Lance was the high scorer (13 pts) on 3 - 6 three pt shooting, 4 -5 FTs, and 2 steals - just 1 TO. Domask was 1 - 8, 0 - 3 from three pt land, had only 5 pts with 4 TOs. He was just absent that game.

In the MVC tournament against Drake, Lance was high scorer with 18. Domask had just 7 pts.

In our home win against the Redturds, Lance had 21 in 30 minutes and 2 steals, Domask had only 10 pts in 34 minutes and was 0 - 4 from three.

At Bradley, Lance and XJ each had 13 pts, Domask had only 5 pts, D'Amico had 0 pts in 20 minutes. In the home Bradley game, Lance didn't make a shot, had 0 points, and played only 16 minutes. Troy D'Amico played 24 minutes and didn't score a point.

After the next game in which we blew out UNI, Lance (28 pts and player of the game), said his Aunt had recently died and some things were going on with his Dad.

At Redturd State, Newton played 23 minutes - 0 pts. Muila 19 minutes - 1 pt., D'Amico 20 minutes - 2 pts.

Domask led the MVC in turnovers BTW. Jones led the MVC in steals. I'm not trying to put down Marcus - heck of a player. Just pointing out the cherry picking people are doing to blame stuff on a single player. Without Lance, we're probably not a .500 team this season.

I can absolutely cherry pick games and find someone who did not play well and blame the loss on them.
