I just watched the entire first half again, I was genuinely curious about our possessions.

We missed 3 WIDE OPEN threes.  Domask, Coupet, SVP.  Kyler had 2 post ups with fantastic position and did less than nothing with them.  Domask missed a great fall away to open the game and 2 easy left hand lay ups, one was literally unguarded.  Lance missed a lay up, JD missed an easy put back on that lay ups.  Our looks were significantly better than theirs.  At one point it should have been about a 10-14 points lead.  At some point the players just have to make shots.  If Domask just makes his 2 lay ups and his fall away which was a great look its an 8 point game at half.  Make shots. It is a make or miss game.

SIU has the best defensive team since the 2007-2008 team. SIU's defense is elite. At the same time, SIU has the worst offensive team it has had in quite some time. I think we have the players to be top 4 in the mvc this year. Mullins and his staff really know how to coach defense, offense not so much! I really wish we had an older assistant who had some offensive coaching chops.

I would love to bring in an older offensive minded assistant next year. However, it will be tough for this staff to swallow their pride and admit that is sorely needed. If we had better offensive schemes and another athletic player or two we could compete for an mvc championship next year. We may have one very athletic player in Ebube on the bench. It is crucial we use the last scholly on an very athletic transfer or juco, preferably a point guard. I am still very hopeful and believe we are close as the very close losses show.

This is true by KenPom (they’re 91st in defensive efficiency now at 98.7 just ahead of Mullins’ first year where they were 99th at 98.6).

Wouldn’t say it’s elite though right now.  They’re really good at defending the 3 (72nd in the country) but not so great at defending near the rim (209th in 2 point % against).  Muila was great last night but they really lack a big that can defend inside.  They’re 300th in the country in block %.

The defense is good but it goes without saying that it needs to be elite to make up for the offense right now.

I bet 100 bucks on SIU to win this game.  I expect to lose that money.

BUT just by the law of averages, sheer luck or Loyola having a bad night, SIU has to win one of these big games, right?

Right?

You never took statistics, correct? That’s not how the law of averages works.

I’m so sorry Almighty Blind Homer.

Please forgive me.

Has nothing to do with being a fan, oh, I mean homer, it has to do with numbers and facts. Sorry to offend you.
